Build our future together: The Senior Manager, Portfolio Management is responsible for executing key portfolio management processes and supporting the execution of portfolio planning and review activities across Global Research and Development. This role serves as a strategic partner to the Director of Portfolio Management, translating complex portfolio information into actionable insights, facilitating cross-functional alignment, and driving the execution of portfolio operating processes that support informed decision-making. The successful candidate will independently lead assigned portfolio management workstreams, develop executive and c-suite ready analyses and high-quality communications, and partner with stakeholders across Clinical Development, Corporate Strategy, Finance, Operations, and other functions to improve portfolio visibility, planning, and execution. Portfolio review frameworks, planning activities, portfolio reporting, prioritization discussions, and portfolio operating processes are recurring responsibilities within the team's work. - Accountable for the planning and execution of assigned portfolio reviews and portfolio planning activities, including timelines, deliverables, stakeholder engagement, content integration, and meeting readiness.
- Lead cross-functional preparation efforts to ensure portfolio discussions are supported by accurate, timely, and decision-relevant information.
- Partner with stakeholders across the enterprise including Clinical Development Units, Development Program Management, Resource Management, Corporate Strategy, Finance, and several other functions to consolidate portfolio inputs, develop insights and ensure alignment on key messages and discussion topics.
- Support the Director of Portfolio Management in enterprise-level portfolio reviews and other strategic portfolio initiatives.
- Develop portfolio analyses that identify execution risks, portfolio constraints, milestone impacts, prioritization challenges, and opportunities requiring management attention.
- Assess portfolio trends and emerging issues to support discussions regarding resource allocation, portfolio trade-offs, and execution planning.
- Develop clear recommendations, high-quality discussion materials, and accurate supporting analyses for leadership review.
- Support the Director of Portfolio Management in evaluating broader portfolio scenarios, prioritization discussions, and portfolio optimization opportunities.
- Accountable for the delivery of assigned portfolio management processes and ensure consistent execution, defined deliverables, and ongoing process improvement.
- Establish and maintain standardized templates, workflows, and operating procedures that improve efficiency, transparency, and consistency across portfolio activities.
- Monitor process performance and recommend enhancements to improve the quality and effectiveness of portfolio management activities.
- Support the Director of Portfolio Management in evolving portfolio management capabilities and operating models.
- Develop insightful, clear and compelling executive and c-suite presentations, portfolio summaries, briefing materials, and leadership communications that synthesize portfolio information into concise and actionable insights.
- Accountable for recurring portfolio reporting activities, including status updates, portfolio summaries, milestone tracking, and leadership communications.
- Track and communicate key portfolio developments, risks, actions, and outcomes arising from portfolio review discussions and planning activities.
- Serve as the primary portfolio management partner for assigned therapeutic areas, functions, portfolio segments, or review processes.
- Support cross-functional working sessions to align stakeholders on portfolio assumptions, risks, dependencies, and recommendations.
- Build productive relationships across stakeholder groups and facilitate resolution of issues affecting portfolio planning and execution.
- Support the Director of Portfolio Management in engaging senior leaders and preparing for portfolio-related discussions and decision forums.
- Minimum Master's degree in a scientific, business, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in portfolio/program management, strategy consulting, business operations, strategic planning, pharmaceutical development, or related functions.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, and bring structure, clarity, and momentum to complex, highly matrixed environments.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical R&D or development portfolios.
- Experience developing well-crafted executive-level presentations communications.
- Familiarity with portfolio planning, prioritization, resource management, and portfolio review processes.
- Experience working with senior leadership teams and enterprise-level initiatives.
