Cloud Engineer

We are seeking a Cloud Engineer to architect, build, and design solutions that integrate public cloud services in a government environment. You will leverage Infrastructure as Code techniques to ensure repeatable deployment of resources and provide expertise in cloud reference architecture to support software development in a DevOps environment.

About the RoleThis is a 6-month contract position with possible extension, starting January 4, 2027. You will work 100% on-site at a government location in Washington, DC, supporting dual Microsoft Exchange and Google Workspace environments. You must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder with at least 3 years U.S. residency and the ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.ResponsibilitiesCreate and update cloud environment configurations to establish and support application workloads in Azure and AWS, including subscriptions, resource groups, VNETs, subnets, load balancers, and security controlsDesign and build automation platforms utilizing Infrastructure as Code methodologies with CloudFormation and/or TerraformDevelop shell scripts and execute commands via command line; demonstrate proficiency with PowerShell and Python scriptingSupport operational requests, communicate level of effort and status to cloud leadershipSupport data calls for provisioned resources and report resource statusIdentify and communicate opportunities for improving agency security posture within cloud environmentsCollaborate with external development teams to understand cloud workload solution architectureCoordinate change and release of Mail and MDM services, including design, architecture, configuration, testing, implementation, and monitoringEnsure timely fulfillment of requested Mail and MDM services for role-based access, permissions, and functionalityAssess and report on performance, access, licensing, and capacity; recommend solutionsParticipate in 24/7 on-call support rotationManage daily operations, drive deliverables, manage expectations, and report to stakeholdersCreate, update, and maintain designs, architectures, SOPs, work instructions, and knowledge articlesRequirements5+ years experience deploying and configuring application workloads within Microsoft Azure Commercial Cloud or AWS Cloud7+ years total hands-on experience in technology infrastructure components including compute, network, and storageDemonstrated understanding of configuring and supporting application workloads within Azure or AWS CloudProven experience with design, configuration, integration, testing, release, maintenance, and support of Microsoft O365 Cloud, Exchange, Intune with Apple Business Manager, Azure, Office Suite, Outlook, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Security & ComplianceUnderstanding of shell scripting and command line executionU.S. citizenship or green xzbcwsv card holder with 3+ years U.S. residencyAbility to obtain Public Trust clearanceNice to HaveStrong understanding of cloud engineering methods, applications, and best practices across cloud service providersExperience assessing, customizing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining emerging technologies and platformsExperience with cloud orchestration tools and continuous delivery processesDemonstrated proficiency automating processes with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Packer, PowerShell, or PythonExperience with containers and container orchestration systems and hardening practicesAWS Solutions Architect Associate and/or Azure Administrator Associate certifications or higherMicrosoft O365 certification or equivalentStrong customer relationship and portfolio management skills with Federal and Contractor leadershipHighly cohesive team member and change agent capabilities
