Job Description

The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nations fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres, and several wetlands mitigation banks, including Greens Bayou.

Job Summary:

The District is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Building Services Coordinator, who is responsible for coordinating maintenance and services for District buildings. Responsible for coordinating the operation of the A200 Gated Structure.

Essential Functions & Duties:

Building Maintenance & Vendor Coordination

  • Schedules vendors to make repairs, coordinates access to District buildings, and inspects their work.

  • Primary point of contact for building maintenance issues.

Building Security & Emergency Preparedness

  • Primary point of contact for building security issues.

  • Primary point of contact for building emergency preparedness, inspection post-event, and restoration coordination.

Flood Control Operations

  • Exercises flood gates monthly and as requested during weather events.

Additional Responsibilities and Duties

  • Attend division and departmental staff meetings, and meetings with coordination departments, vendors, and agencies.

  • Attend seminars, conference workshops, re-certification, or other training programs.

  • Assist with department or District projects, as needed.

  • Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives.

Education:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent

Licensure:

  • Valid Class "C" Texas Drivers License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Have basic working knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles.

  • Familiar with SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Professional

  • Ability to read drawings.

  • Be a self-starter; work well independently and as a team; assume ownership in completing assigned tasks.

  • Work well under pressure, adhering to tight deadlines and accuracy and quality standards.

  • Work independently with limited supervision, relative autonomy, and general review.

  • Utilize good time management skills and effectively prioritize and schedule multiple tasks and initiatives.

  • Exemplify a professional manner in all circumstances.

  • Work well and build strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and other organizations.

  • Effectively prioritize, identify, and solve problems.

  • Effectively communicate with coworkers, the general public, the industry, and/or governmental representatives.

  • Read/comprehend written materials, e.g., policies, procedures, operating instructions, and safety notices; write/record legible notes of activity and accurately complete required forms.

  • Solve simple mathematical problems that may be required in normal work situations.

Education:

  • Associate degree from an accredited college or university

Language:

  • Bilingual skills in English/Spanish are a plus.

Physical Demands & Environmental Exposure:

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodation may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions:

  • Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying of items up to 11 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequent driving of a vehicle with automatic controls and Four-Wheel Drive.

  • Occasional walking up and down steep slopes of ditches or on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain,
    plowed or furrowed areas, or construction sites.

  • Prolonged sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Work is generally performed indoors in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, air conditioning,
    and noise levels.

  • When at field locations, may be exposed to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind and dust, wildlife,
    flying/walking insects, vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
