VP – Portfolio Credit Risk (Mortgage) | Leading Private Sector Bank
Location: Mumbai
Function: Credit Risk Management – Mortgage/Home Loans Portfolio
About the Role
Our client, a leading private sector bank in India, is looking for a Vice President – Portfolio Credit Risk (Mortgage) to own credit risk monitoring, portfolio quality, and early warning management for their mortgage/home loan book. This is a critical role for a professional who can combine deep credit risk expertise with hands-on portfolio analytics in the mortgage servicing lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end portfolio credit risk management for the mortgage/home loans book, including origination quality feedback, vintage analysis, and delinquency trends
- Design and monitor Early Warning Signals (EWS) and portfolio triggers across the mortgage servicing lifecycle
- Track portfolio performance against risk appetite; recommend policy/product interventions based on risk-return trade-offs
- Partner with Collections, Underwriting, and Product teams to calibrate credit filters, LTV/FOIR norms, and risk-based pricing
- Conduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio stratification (geography, ticket size, LTV, occupation, builder/project category, etc.)
- Prepare and present portfolio risk MIS/dashboards to senior management, Risk Committee, and Board as required
- Ensure compliance with RBI guidelines on mortgage lending, provisioning norms (ECL/IRAC), and internal risk policies
- Lead root-cause analysis on slippages and work with cross-functional teams on corrective action plans
- Support model validation/monitoring for scorecards, PD/LGD models specific to the mortgage portfolio
- Mentor and manage a team of credit risk analysts
Desired Candidate Profile
- 12–16 years of experience in Credit Risk / Portfolio Risk Management, with significant exposure to mortgage/home loans or secured retail lending
- Strong understanding of mortgage servicing operations, collections dynamics, and secured lending credit cycles
- Hands-on experience with portfolio analytics, EWS frameworks, and risk MIS
- Working knowledge of RBI regulatory guidelines on housing finance/mortgage lending and provisioning norms
- Prior experience in a bank, HFC, or large NBFC mortgage business preferred
- Strong stakeholder management skills to work with Business, Collections, Product, and Compliance teams
- MBA/PGDM or equivalent from a reputed institute; professional certifications in risk management (FRM/PRM) will be an advantage
