Salary: £16.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: 6:00am–4:00pm, with overtime available
Start Date: Immediate start available
The Opportunity We are currently recruiting an experienced Conventional Machinist / Centre Lathe Turner to join an established engineering and steel processing business in Rotherham.
Due to the expansion of the machining operation, this is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist to join a busy industrial environment, working with large-diameter steel bars and specialist alloys.
The role will primarily involve straightforward bar turning, machining large-diameter steel and superalloys to stock sizes. Materials typically range from 6–10 inches in diameter and approximately 3–5 metres in length, with general tolerances of around 3mm.
Materials are loaded into and out of machines using overhead cranes.
Key Responsibilities Operate conventional centre lathes to machine steel bars and superalloys to the required stock sizes.
Work with large-diameter materials and long bar lengths.
Follow engineering drawings, job instructions and machining specifications.
Check dimensions and ensure materials meet the required tolerances.
Load and unload materials using overhead cranes.
Maintain safe working practices and ensure production requirements are met.
Support the wider machining operation when required.
What We're Looking For Previous experience operating conventional centre lathes or manual turning machinery.
A background in machining, steel processing or heavy engineering.
An understanding of machining tolerances and dimensional accuracy.
Experience working with large steel bars or alloys would be advantageous.
Overhead crane experience would be beneficial.
A reliable, safety-conscious approach and the ability to work as part of a team.
Flexibility to work alternative shifts for short periods when business requirements demand.
What's on Offer? £16.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Full-time, permanent employment.
Day-shift working, 6:00am–4:00pm.
Overtime available as required.
