Role Summary
Group Bayport is expanding its Rugs business and is looking for a senior production professional to lead the design and build-out of a new manufacturing line, and to subsequently own end-to-end production across multiple rug categories. This is a founding role for the production function — the successful candidate will help shape processes, vendor relationships, quality systems, and team structure from the ground up, with a particular need for hands-on expertise in printed rugs manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities Lead the planning, design, and setup of a new production line for rugs, covering machinery selection, plant layout, workflow design, and capacity planning. Drive production across multiple rug categories (e.g. printed, tufted, woven, flatweave, shag) as the business scales, with a strong initial focus on printed rugs. Own the end-to-end manufacturing process — raw material planning, production scheduling, quality control, and finishing — to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets. Evaluate, select, and manage relationships with machinery vendors, raw material suppliers, and job-work / outsourced production partners. Set up quality assurance systems and SOPs for each rug category, with particular attention to print quality, colour fastness, registration accuracy, and finish consistency in printed rugs. Build and lead the production team — recruiting, training, and structuring roles as the line scales from pilot to full capacity. Partner with design, merchandising, and e-commerce teams to translate product concepts into manufacturable specifications, including new print techniques and substrates. Develop costing models for new products and production methods, working closely with finance and procurement. Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to improve throughput, reduce wastage, and improve margins. Ensure compliance with relevant safety, labor, and environmental regulations at the production facility.
Required Qualifications & Experience 10–15+ years of experience in textile or rug manufacturing, with at least 3–5 years in a senior production leadership role. Proven experience setting up a new production line from scratch — machinery procurement, plant layout, and process design. Strong working knowledge of rug manufacturing processes and machinery (tufting, weaving, printing, latexing/backing, finishing). Hands-on background in printed rugs manufacturing is strongly preferred — familiarity with digital or rotary printing on rug substrates, dyes/inks, colour management, and print-quality troubleshooting. Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, negotiate with equipment suppliers, and manage capital procurement for plant setup. Strong people management skills, with experience building and training production teams. Working knowledge of production costing, capacity planning, and manufacturing P& L. Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, or a related field; a master's degree or equivalent industry certification is a plus.
Preferred Attributes Prior experience in a home textiles or floor-covering export business, ideally serving US or European markets. Exposure to setting up greenfield manufacturing units or expanding an existing line into new categories. Entrepreneurial mindset — comfortable operating with ambiguity and building structure where none currently exists. Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally with design, e-commerce, and leadership teams.
What This Role Offers The opportunity to build a production line and function from the ground up for a fast-growing e-commerce and manufacturing group. High ownership and visibility, reporting directly to the Director. A chance to shape the category strategy for printed and other rug types as the business scales.
