How Much gives small businesses a clear answer to one question: how much can I safely spend today? Our platform combines bank balances, card settlements, receivables and payables into one cash picture. It then recommends which bills to pay now, hold, or review, and the business owner approves every payment. We reach merchants through the partners they already trust. Merchant acquirers embed How Much in their merchant portals, such as Clover, as a white-label product under their own brand. Businesses can also sign up directly through our website. We are an early-stage fintech with an office in Covington, Louisiana. The role You will be our first technology hire. You will own How Much's software from first build through launch, support and every release after. You will lead an offshore development team as the technical owner on our side, not as a hands-off vendor manager. Our MVP is being built now on Node.js/TypeScript, React and PostgreSQL on AWS. In your first year, success means a secure, reliable launch with our first acquirer partners and direct merchants, followed by a dependable release and support process. You will report to the CEO and lay the technical foundation every future engineer builds on. What you'll do Own the architecture, technical roadmap and engineering standards for the How Much platform. Manage the offshore development team day to day: sprint planning, priorities, code review, and accountability for scope, quality and timelines. Turn business requirements into clear technical specs, and keep product, partners and the team aligned on what ships when. Lead integrations with merchant acquirer processors (starting with Clover), bank data through Mastercard Open Finance, and accounting systems such as QuickBooks. Own security and compliance engineering: data protection, access control, audit logging, and readiness for partner security reviews and certifications such as SOC 2. Run the cloud environment on AWS, including CI/CD, monitoring, backups, cost control, and incident response. Set up and run production support after launch: on-call coverage, bug triage, service levels, and root-cause reviews. Act as the technical lead in partner conversations, supporting the Director of Acquirer Partnerships on integration scoping and due diligence. Hold the code, credentials and documentation in How Much-owned accounts, so knowledge stays with the company. Recommend when and how to grow the team, including future in-house hires. What you bring 10+ years in software engineering, including at least 4 years leading teams and owning production systems. Hands-on depth in our stack: Node.js/TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL and AWS. You can review code, debug production issues, and make architecture calls yourself. Proven experience managing offshore or outsourced development teams across time zones, with clear contracts, deliverables and quality gates. Fintech or payments experience: card processing, settlement, bank data, or money movement, and the security expectations that come with them. Experience taking a product from build to launch and then running it in production with real customers. Comfort as a team of one on our side: you set the process, write the specs, and own the outcome. Clear communication with non-technical founders, partners and auditors. Nice to have Experience integrating with acquirer or processor platforms such as Clover, Fiserv or Global Payments. Work with open banking providers (Mastercard Open Finance, Plaid or similar) or accounting APIs such as QuickBooks Online. Experience with FBO accounts, ACH, or bill-pay systems. Has led a SOC 2 audit, PCI DSS scope review, or bank partner security assessment.
