See it get built.If you're an experienced Structural Professional Engineer who wants to do more than produce drawings and calculations, this is an opportunity to take ownership of complex structural designs and work directly alongside the construction professionals who will bring those designs to life.We are recruiting for a highly experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join an established engineering and design-build organization supporting industrial and specialty construction projects.This is not a role where you'll be isolated behind a desk designing projects you never see again.You'll collaborate with engineers, designers, Project Managers, Superintendents, VDC professionals, and construction teams to develop solutions that are technically sound, efficient, and actually constructible in the field.What You'll Be DesigningProjects vary in size, complexity, and duration and may include:Industrial facilities and structuresStructural and specialty foundation systemsEquipment foundations and supportsStructural steel platformingContainment structuresFoundation designs developed in collaboration with the Geostructural engineering teamOther structural components supporting industrial and design-build constructionDepending on project size, you may manage the engineering responsibilities for 3–4 smaller projects at different stages or concentrate on one significant, longer-duration project with defined schedule milestones.You Won't Be Engineering AloneYou'll join an established technical team that includes:5 Engineers, including three other Structural PEs and a Geostructural PE3 Modelers/Designers1 Project ManagerThere are no direct reports expected initially, but this is a senior-level position with significant technical ownership and the opportunity to provide direction and review to design personnel.For design-build projects, the engineering/design team develops the design while actively incorporating constructability input from the Construction Project Manager and Superintendent. Once the engineering deliverable is issued, the construction team executes the scope.You'll have the opportunity to design solutions and then see how those solutions perform in the field.Your RoleYou'll take ownership of structural design efforts from scope development through completed construction documents, including:Leading structural design efforts and coordinating project deliverablesPerforming and reviewing detailed structural calculationsDeveloping design bases, engineering philosophies, specifications, drawings, and supporting documentationReviewing construction documents for technical accuracy and constructabilityCoordinating with Project Managers, VDC, Designers, Superintendents, and construction personnelIdentifying constructability issues, conflicts, and value-engineering opportunitiesReviewing vendor and subcontractor submittalsSupporting RFIs and technical questions during constructionParticipating in project kickoff, design review, vendor, and Client/Owner meetingsSupporting proposal development, engineering estimates, execution strategies, and manpower requirementsEvery deliverable goes through senior engineer or peer QA/QC review before final sign-off and issuance.The position is designed for an engineer who can take genuine ownership of the technical work while still having an experienced engineering team around them.What We're Looking ForRequired:Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering10+ years of structural design experienceActive Professional Engineer (PE) licenseStrong understanding of structural mechanics, analysis, and designExperience developing and reviewing structural calculations and construction documentsAbility to lead design efforts and collaborate effectively with construction teamsPreferred:Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasisExperience with STAAD, RISA 3D, or comparable finite element analysis softwareWorking knowledge of AutoCAD and BluebeamIndustrial and/or design-build project experienceA Master's degree is preferred, but it is not a prerequisite for an experienced PE who can demonstrate strong structural design experience and a thorough understanding of structural mechanics.The original position specification calls for 10+ years of structural design experience, a Civil Engineering bachelor's degree, PE licensure, and proficiency with structural analysis software.Schedule & TravelThis is an in-office, five-day-per-week position.Travel is limited primarily to day trips to evaluate potential projects or visit active construction sites, averaging approximately 1–2 trips per month.Travel between the Piedmont Operations Center and South Carolina or Tennessee offices is expected to be infrequent.CompensationBase Salary: $150,000–$180,000For the right structural engineer, this is an opportunity to join a sophisticated design-build environment where engineering isn't disconnected from construction.You'll work alongside other licensed engineers, have peer review and technical support, collaborate directly with the people building your designs, and take meaningful ownership of challenging industrial projects.Interested—or know a Structural PE who should hear about this opportunity?Send me a private message. xzbcwsv I'm happy to have a confidential conversation before you decide whether you'd like to formally explore the position.
