Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, performs the more difficult and responsible tasks of maintenance, construction, repair and upkeep of roadways, concrete, curbing, alleys, retention basins, facilities, buildings, parks, recreation fields and landscape areas. Works independently with little or no immediate supervision, and makes proper decisions using sound judgment; duties will vary according to job assignment. <br /> Note: This recruitment is a promotional opportunity available only to current City of Casa Grande employees. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. <br /> <br /> <br /><ul><li> When assigned to public works, repairs and maintains streets, roadways, concrete, curbing, sidewalks, barricades, alleys, retention basins, medians and right of ways; repairs or replaces asphalt, potholes, and surfaces using a variety of tools, equipment, and machinery. </li><li> When assigned to parks, duties may include, but are not limited to mowing, landscaping, and maintenance of irrigation systems, athletic fields, aquatics facilities, trails, playground equipment, and application of herbicides, fungicides, pesticides; installs and maintains turf, trees, shrubs and other landscaping materials. </li><li> When assigned to facilities, performs basic maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and HVAC systems; completes work orders; estimates materials and supplies for needed repairs. </li><li> Operates a variety of trucks and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; sets up traffic control zones to minimize risk of accidents and assists with traffic flagging when needed. </li><li> Inspects, cleans and performs routine maintenance work on trucks and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair. </li><li> Responds to emergency situations if required including motor vehicle accidents, spills, debris, and may assist with traffic control. </li><li> Uses a personal computer or other hand-held communication devices to enter and retrieve information related to work assignments, other record keeping, and electronic communication; completes required daily logs and reports. </li><li> Trains personnel in the safe and proper operation of a wide variety of tools and equipment; may assist in providing training and direction to new employees. </li><li> Performs other duties as assigned or required. </li> </ul> <br /> SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May serve as lead when assigned. Education and Experience: <br /> High School diploma or GED equivalent, and two (2) years construction maintenance work such as concrete repair, construction, irrigation, landscaping, turf care or other related work experience, including one (1) year work experience with the City. <p></p> Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Class A Arizona Commercial Driver License; Possession of pesticide/herbicide applicators license or other specialized certifications may also be required for certain positions. Necessary Knowledge and Skills: <br /><ul><li> Knowledge of City policies and procedures. </li><li> Knowledge of street, asphalt, and concrete repair methods and procedures. </li><li> Knowledge of equipment maintenance and equipment repair methods and materials. </li><li> Knowledge of safety standards and practices including traffic barricading. </li><li> Skill in safe operation of equipment according to standard safety procedures. </li><li> Skill in reading and interpreting maps, technical specifications and operations manuals for vehicles and equipment. </li><li> Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions. </li></ul> Physical Demands / Work Environment: Work is performed outdoors and in Parks, Public Works, and City facilities including in roadways and areas of high motor vehicle traffic. <br /> <br /> <br /> The job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as needed. <br /> The City does not hire at the top of the range.
