Job Description
<p>The Head - EHS will provide strategic leadership and governance for Environment, Health & Safety across multiple API manufacturing facilities. The role is responsible for developing and implementing world-class EHS systems, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations, fostering a strong safety culture, driving sustainability initiatives, and achieving zero harm while supporting business continuity and operational excellence.</p><p>The incumbent will partner with Operations, Engineering, Projects, Quality, HR, and Regulatory teams to ensure safe manufacturing practices, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance across all manufacturing locations.</p><p>Key Responsibilities</p><p>Strategic Leadership</p><ul><li>Develop and execute the organization's EHS strategy aligned with business objectives.</li><li>Lead and standardize EHS practices across multiple API manufacturing plants.</li><li>Establish annual EHS goals, KPIs, and improvement roadmaps.</li><li>Drive a "Zero Harm" safety culture throughout the organization.</li><li>Lead ESG and sustainability initiatives related to manufacturing operations.</li></ul><p>Health & Safety Management</p><ul><li>Ensure implementation and continual improvement of Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems (ISO 45001).</li><li>Develop safety policies, SOPs, standards, and corporate EHS guidelines.</li><li>Monitor compliance with statutory safety requirements.</li><li>Lead hazard identification, HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, and risk assessments.</li><li>Implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs for hazardous chemical manufacturing.</li><li>Ensure safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous chemicals.</li></ul><p>Process Safety Management (PSM)</p><ul><li>Lead implementation of Process Safety Management programs.</li><li>Review process safety during plant design and technology transfer.</li><li>Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, LOPA, and What-if studies.</li><li>Monitor critical safety systems including:</li><li>Pressure Relief Systems</li><li>Explosion Protection Systems</li><li>Fire & Gas Detection Systems</li><li>Emergency Shutdown Systems</li><li>Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)</li></ul><p>Environmental Management</p><ul><li>Ensure compliance with environmental regulations issued by CPCB/SPCB.</li><li>Manage:</li><li>Air emissions</li><li>Wastewater treatment</li><li>Hazardous waste management</li><li>Solvent recovery</li><li>Environmental monitoring</li><li>Lead carbon footprint reduction initiatives.</li><li>Drive water conservation, energy efficiency, and waste minimization programs.</li></ul><p>Regulatory Compliance</p><ul><li>Ensure compliance with:</li><li>Factories Act</li><li>State Pollution Control Board (SPCB)</li><li>CPCB Guidelines</li><li>PESO Regulations</li><li>MSIHC Rules</li><li>Chemical Accident Rules</li><li>Hazardous Waste Rules</li><li>OSHA Principles</li><li>ISO 14001 & ISO 45001</li><li>Responsible Care Guidelines</li><li>Coordinate regulatory inspections and statutory audits.</li></ul><p>Emergency Response & Crisis Management</p><ul><li>Develop emergency response plans.</li><li>Conduct mock drills across all sites.</li><li>Lead incident command during emergencies.</li><li>Coordinate with local authorities including Fire Department, Pollution Control Board, and District Administration.</li><li>Ensure disaster management preparedness.</li></ul><p>Incident Investigation</p><ul><li>Lead investigations for:</li><li>Near Misses</li><li>Unsafe Acts</li><li>Unsafe Conditions</li><li>Property Damage</li><li>Environmental Incidents</li><li>Lost Time Injuries (LTI)</li><li>Perform Root Cause Analysis using:</li><li>5 Why</li><li>Fishbone Diagram</li><li>TapRoot</li><li>RCA Methodology</li><li>Ensure effective CAPA implementation.</li></ul><p>Occupational Health</p><ul><li>Implement industrial hygiene programs.</li><li>Conduct exposure monitoring.</li><li>Monitor occupational diseases.</li><li>Coordinate periodic medical examinations.</li><li>Manage ergonomics and wellness initiatives.</li></ul><p>Audit & Compliance</p><ul><li>Lead internal and external EHS audits.</li><li>Ensure audit readiness.</li><li>Close audit observations within agreed timelines.</li><li>Support customer and regulatory inspections.</li></ul><p>Training & Safety Culture</p><ul><li>Develop organization-wide EHS competency programs.</li><li>Conduct:</li><li>Safety Induction</li><li>Contractor Safety Programs</li><li>Behavioral Safety Programs</li><li>Leadership Safety Workshops</li><li>Emergency Response Training</li><li>Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.</li></ul><p>Contractor Safety Management</p><ul><li>Implement contractor safety management systems.</li><li>Review contractor competency and safety performance.</li><li>Ensure permit-to-work compliance.</li><li>Monitor contractor safety during shutdowns, maintenance, and projects.</li></ul><p>Projects & Engineering Support</p><ul><li>Provide EHS inputs for:</li><li>New plant construction</li><li>Plant expansion</li><li>Commissioning</li><li>Technology transfer</li><li>Participate in design reviews and safety approvals.</li></ul><p>Sustainability & ESG</p><ul><li>Lead sustainability initiatives including:</li><li>Energy conservation</li><li>Water conservation</li><li>Waste reduction</li><li>Renewable energy adoption</li><li>Carbon emission reduction</li><li>Publish sustainability metrics and reports.</li></ul><p>Stakeholder Management</p><ul><li>Collaborate with:</li><li>Operations</li><li>Engineering</li><li>QA/QC</li><li>Projects</li><li>HR</li><li>Procurement</li><li>Regulatory Affairs</li><li>Represent the organization before statutory authorities Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.</li><li>Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety (Mandatory).</li><li>M.Tech/M.E. in Safety or Environmental Engineering (Preferred).</li><li>NEBOSH IGC/Diploma or equivalent international certification (Preferred).</li></ul><p>Experience</p><ul><li>18-25 years of experience in EHS within the Pharmaceutical API, Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, or Chemical Manufacturing industry.</li><li>Minimum 8-10 years in a leadership role managing EHS across multiple manufacturing sites.</li><li>Experience handling highly hazardous chemical processes, solvent recovery, utilities, and large-scale API manufacturing.</li><li>Proven experience in regulatory inspections, process safety management, and
