Senior Design Engineer (Overhead Lines)

M Group Energy is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our growing Overhead Lines (OHL) Design team in Pune, India. This is a key technical role responsible for leading the development of high-quality, compliant, and efficient OHL design solutions while supporting clients and project teams through complex engineering challenges.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in overhead line design, advanced analytical capability, and the ability to lead design delivery across multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Design Delivery

• Support Design Leads and clients in solving complex Overhead Line engineering issues.
• Lead the development of OHL design solutions, including line design calculations, assessments, reports, line profiles, string drawings, spacer damper schedules, and sag-tension studies.
• Perform and verify engineering calculations using industry-standard software and manual methods where required.
• Provide expert technical guidance on complex engineering challenges and support design optimisation.
• Ensure all design deliverables are completed to the required quality, safety, and programme standards.
• Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.

Engineering Assurance & Compliance

• Undertake and check technical work to ensure compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and regulatory obligations.
• Apply governance processes, technical reviews, and assurance procedures throughout the design lifecycle.
• Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice within the design team.

Site, Stakeholder & Project Coordination

• Interpret site constraints and operational requirements to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, delivery teams, subcontractors, clients, and external stakeholders to ensure coordinated project delivery.
• Provide technical support throughout project execution

What You'll Bring

Essential

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years' experience in Overhead Line Design.
• Expert knowledge of PLS-CADD and PLS-TOWER software.
• Strong understanding of overhead line towers, conductors, insulators, fittings, and associated design standards.
• Proven experience producing construction-ready OHL design outputs.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (IMechE, ICE, or IStructE) or working towards chartership.
• Experience supporting feasibility studies, optioneering, and design justification activities.
• Familiarity with National Grid, SPEN, SSE, BSI, ENA, and other relevant industry standards.
