Senior Applied AI Engineer - New York, NY (On-site) | Series A AI Startup | $220k - $300k+ & Equity

Most AI products are thin wrappers on someone else's model. This one is built on proprietary data that no foundation model has access to.
We're working with a Series A AI company building the operating system for independent retail. Its platform runs the whole business, including point of sale, eCommerce, payments, payroll and wholesale purchasing, which means it holds a uniquely complete picture of each business: in-store and online sales, supplier buying patterns, staffing costs and financial data, all in one place.
That data is the moat, and the AI team's job is to turn it into agents that run a store.

Problems you'll work onAgents that set prices, spot slow-moving inventory and create the promotion to move itDetecting theft and costly operational mistakes from patterns across sales, staffing and inventory dataReading messy real-world supplier documents and turning them into structured data that drives inventory and paymentsForecasting demand and optimising ordering and staff schedulingBuilding the evaluation systems that prove each agent actually improves revenue and saves time
What we're looking for5+ years building and shipping AI/ML products in productionHands-on experience with LLM agents, retrieval, evals and the full model lifecycleSomeone who wants to own outcomes end-to-end and moves fastBonus: post-training/fine-tuning open-source models, retrieval/ranking, forecasting or pricing experience
