About the Role

As a Design Manager, you will own the design function of the Experience Centre—from team performance and design quality to customer experience, business conversion and project handover. You will lead a cohort of approximately 15–20 Designers, Senior Designers and Principal Designers, while working closely with Design, Project Management, Execution and Business teams. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance design excellence with commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor a team of 15–20 Designers, Senior Designers and Principal Designers.
• Set clear performance expectations and drive individual and team productivity.
• Conduct regular reviews, coaching sessions and design critiques.
• Identify high performers and develop future design leaders.
• Address performance gaps through structured feedback and development plans.

2. Design & Creative Excellence

• Set the design direction and quality standards for the Experience Centre.
• Review high-value and complex residential projects.
• Ensure designs are aesthetically strong, functional, practical and aligned with client requirements.
• Guide designers on space planning, material selection, detailing, lighting, furniture and overall design language.
• Build a culture of creativity, innovation and attention to detail.

3. Client & Design Experience

• Support the team in handling high-value and premium clients.
• Participate in critical client presentations and design discussions.
• Step in for complex design escalations and important customer conversations.
• Ensure the design journey delivers a premium and differentiated customer experience.

4. Business & Conversion

• Partner closely with Sales to improve design-led conversion.
• Ensure design teams understand business targets and commercial priorities.
• Track design pipeline, conversion, ticket size and revenue contribution.
• Identify opportunities to improve revenue through better design solutions and client engagement.
• Balance creative ambition with project feasibility and commercial viability.

5. Design Process & Quality

• Establish and maintain strong design processes and review mechanisms.
• Ensure timely completion of design milestones.
• Maintain consistency in design quality across the team.
• Ensure designs are execution-friendly and aligned with approved scope and BOQ.
• Work closely with Project Management and Execution teams to resolve design-related challenges.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with:
• Sales
• Project Management
• Execution
• Procurement
• Customer Experience
• Business/Vertical Leadership
• to ensure a smooth journey from lead → design → sale → execution → handover.

7. Talent & Capability Building

• Participate in hiring and onboarding of designers.
• Build structured training programs for Designers and Senior Designers.
• Conduct design workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions and project reviews.
• Create career development pathways for designers.
• Build a strong internal design talent pipeline.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of experience in residential interior design.

Required Skills

Must Have

• 7-10 years of experience in residential interior design.
• Experience managing a large design team.
• Strong understanding of premium/high-value residential interiors.
• Strong knowledge of space planning, materials, finishes, furniture and design detailing.
• Experience working with clients and managing design presentations.
• Strong commercial understanding of interior design.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
