Occupational Health Nurse

Job Description

  • Provides initial assessment of injuries and illnesses of employees, treating according to established protocols and referring to outside treatment if necessary. This includes prevention and early intervention of repetitive trauma disorders.
  • Manage various EH&S programs as necessary (i.e. ergonomics, first responder, etc.). Updates relevant EH&S policies and procedures as needed.
  • Establish and promote Health & Wellness programs for employees and develops relationships with appropriate community agencies (in conjunction with the Human Resources Department).
  • Provide certain EH&S training (i.e. bloodborne pathogen, first aid provider, etc.).
  • Assist the EH&S Group Leader with Industrial Hygiene and Environmental reporting. Maintains company OSHA 300 log, Incident Documentation, etc.
  • Oversees equipment and supplies in the plant Health Center. Coordinates with janitorial / maintenance staff to ensure clean and safe environment and problem resolution for EH&S concerns within the facility.
  • Manage the Workers Comp and Non-occupational case program. Manage FMLA, Short Term and Long-Term Disability cases (follow up with employee, care providers, etc.) in conjunction with the Human Resources Department.
  • Reviews pre-employment and return to work physical exams to identify conditions which may affect the workers’ ability to perform the job and/or impact on the future health of the worker. Arrange for any Fitness for Duty Evaluations that may be required.
  • Conducts or arranges for health screening/surveillance as necessary meeting ANSI/OSHA/MIOSHA requirements. Maintains detailed documentation on medical management in safe and confidential manner meeting OSHA/MIOSHA requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in local, state and federal guidelines and continually updates knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety issues, Occupational Health Nursing and health care delivery systems.
  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principles.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

    Qualifications Required

    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current license (LPN minimum)
    • Skills in problem-solving, independent nursing judgment, and decision making.
    • Minimum of five years Nursing experience
    • Certified in CPR
    • Must have knowledge of workers compensation, FMLA, Short, and Long Term Disability
    • Approachable and understands the importance of confidentiality
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required

    Qualifications Desired

    • Audiometric & Vision testing experience and certification.
    • Certification as CPR instructor.
    • O.H.N./ B.S.N.
    • Three years of Occupational Health Nursing is desired.
    • Experience supporting EH&S department.
    • Experience with development/coordination of Health & Wellness program.

    Other Requirements

    • Relies on experience and understanding of Occupational Health Nursing; Worker’s Compensation; Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations to determine proper actions.
    • Key relationships with internal leadership team, employees, and interested parties to ensure successful and mutual concern resolution.
    • Demands and priorities need adjusted regularly to provide a high level of service under tight timelines to several customers-internally or externally.
    • While performing the duties of this position, the associate frequently works around moving machines, chemicals, and high temperature in an industrial environment.
    • The associate occasionally must travel by commercial means or private transport.
    • Candidates must be able to climb stairs, crouch, kneel, and maintain balance in various working environments.
    • The position also requires the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds, occasionally over 20 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
