The Don Chapin Co., Inc., a family-owned and operated company with diverse construction, materials, manufacturing, and service operations, is seeking an experienced Corporate Controller to lead accounting and financial functions and reporting across the company and related entities. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can manage a substantial team, track multiple profit centers and locations, ensure the integrity of the information reported, and work closely with our Chief Operating Officer as a trusted financial team partner.

What you’ll do

• Lead and develop a team of approximately 15 employees across accounting, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Own timely, accurate financial statements, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and accounting operations for multiple entities.
• Manage payroll oversight, including payroll accuracy, reconciliations, and quarterly and annual reporting.
• Strengthen internal controls, segregation of duties, documentation, transparency, and accountability.
• Partner with the COO on financial analysis, budgeting, forecasts, and financial decision support.
• Improve processes and use of technology while remaining willing to handle complex accounting details personally.
• Collaborate effectively with field operations, operating divisions, and department managers.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience), plus substantial progressive accounting experience; ideally 10+ years.
• Accounting leadership experience; ideally 5+ years supervising staff and managing financial reporting.
• Must have hands-on payroll oversight experience, including payroll tax reporting. Experience with prevailing wage compliance and certified payroll is preferred.
• Strong GAAP knowledge, internal-controls expertise, advanced Excel skills, and comfort learning accounting technology.
• Integrity, accuracy, initiative, sound judgment, approachable leadership, and the confidence to raise difficult issues.
• Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred but not required. CPA, MBA, Trimble Spectrum, and QuickBooks Online experience are pluses.
