Roots by Sujata Agrawal is a contemporary fashion brand based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, creating distinctive and expressive clothing with a strong focus on craftsmanship, design, and individuality.

We work across men’s and women’s wear, including occasion wear, festive collections, party wear, and contemporary Indian fashion. Our designs combine traditional Indian techniques such as embroidery, handwork, and textile craftsmanship with modern silhouettes and styling.

Role Description

We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Fashion Designer to join the Roots team. The role involves developing new designs and collections from concept to final product, with a strong understanding of fabrics, silhouettes, embellishments, and garment construction.

The ideal candidate should have a strong eye for fashion, be comfortable experimenting with contemporary and traditional Indian techniques, and be able to turn ideas and references into commercially viable designs.

• Strong Fashion Design and Fashion skills, with the ability to translate concepts into commercially viable collections.
• Experience with Textiles and Embroidery, including fabric selection, surface ornamentation, and material sourcing.
• Proficiency in Fitting, garment construction understanding, and working with pattern makers and sampling units.
• Ability to conduct trend and market research, create mood boards, and develop cohesive design stories.
• Knowledge of design tools (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar software) is highly beneficial.
• Attention to detail, strong aesthetic sense, and an understanding of comfort, functionality, and durability in apparel.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and vendors.
• Relevant diploma or degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field preferred, with prior experience in apparel design considered an advantage.
