About DoorvestFounded in 2020, Doorvest is a real estate technology and investment platform that democratizes access to single-family rental investing. Headquartered in San Francisco and backed by top-tier venture firms including M13, Mucker Capital, and Gaingels, we've helped hundreds of investors build wealth through institutional-grade real estate. We run an end-to-end platform spanning acquisition, management, and exits, with single-family and small multifamily rentals across markets including Ohio, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Oregon. We run our operations like a technology company: distributed teams, a managed vendor network, and a heavy reliance on data and tooling to move faster than a traditional property manager ever could.
The RoleWe are hiring a Collections Specialist based in Cleveland to keep rent coming in across our Ohio portfolios. You will own complex collections and payment plans, post notices in person in Cleveland, and research tenant ledgers until every balance is right. You are the step before legal: you work every delinquent account hard and fairly, and when a notice expires unpaid and the owner authorizes filing, you hand a clean, complete case to our Evictions team.
This role sits on our Resident Services team and works closely with an offshore collections teammate, our Evictions Manager, our Housing Programs team, and Owner Support. Court appearances and bailiff move-outs are handled by our Cleveland market team, not this role. Like everyone at Doorvest, you will wear multiple hats and take on the work the business requires.
What You'll OwnRun the collections calendar for Ohio portfolios: day-2 reminders, day-5 calls, and day-6 three-day notices, with no account skipped.Handle complex collections: tenants with large or aging balances, broken promises, disputes, and accounts that need a direct conversation.Set up, document, and monitor payment plans, and follow up the moment a plan is missed.Post three-day notices in person across Cleveland, including our Realty Now and IIP portfolios, using the correct Ohio forms, and document every posting.Research tenant ledgers: missing or unapplied payments, duplicate charges, and account discrepancies. Request corrections through our Ops Finance team so the ledger is accurate before any notice or filing.Hand cases to the Evictions Manager when a notice expires unpaid and the owner authorizes filing, with the ledger, notice, and communication history complete.Coordinate with our Housing Programs team on Section 8 and housing-assistance tenants, so tenant and agency portions are handled correctly.Prepare for delinquency events and owner delinquency reviews, and feed owner-facing delinquency updates through Owner Support.Resolve escalated, non-legal resident concerns related to balances and payments.Document every call, text, payment plan, and notice in our property management system the same day.Track and report Cleveland delinquency, and flag patterns that need a process or product fix.
Who You Are2+ years in residential collections, property management, or a related role, with real experience collecting from tenants.Working knowledge of Ohio landlord-tenant law and the three-day notice process, and the judgment to know when to escalate.Comfortable having direct, respectful conversations about money with tenants who are behind.Detail-oriented with ledgers and numbers. You don't send a notice until the balance is right.Experience with Section 8 or housing-assistance tenants is a strong plus.Comfortable in property management software (Rentvine, AppFolio, or similar) and quick to learn new tools.Knows Cleveland and is comfortable working in the field. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.Organized, consistent, and self-directed: you work a daily list and close it out.
What We're Not Looking ForThis is not a remote, desk-only role. Notices are posted in person, and Cleveland is the job. It is also not a role for someone who wants to push accounts to legal as fast as possible. xzbcwsv We want someone who collects first, documents everything, and sends only clean, well-supported cases forward.
Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary (based on skills and experience)Full benefits package (upon completion of probationary period)The chance to own collections for a growing portfolio, with a technology platform and a central operations team behind you
