Job Description

Credit Strategy & Decisioning Consultant

Location: India

Company: Blue Polaris Inc.

Engagement Type: Consulting / Contractor

Experience Level: Senior

Language Required: English (professional level required)

ABOUT BLUE POLARIS

At Blue Polaris, we are redefining how businesses make decisions. As a global leader in decision automation, AI, and business architecture, we partner with Fortune 500 companies to design intelligent, transparent systems using Decision Model and Notation (DMN) and our proprietary Decisions First™ approach.

We don't just solve problems — we model how organizations think, decide, and act. By combining AI, analytics, business architecture, and human expertise, we help enterprises improve outcomes at scale.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Credit Strategy & Decisioning Consultant — a senior banking practitioner who has personally defined how lending decisions get made. Not someone who built the system that executes the decisions, and not someone who used data science to analyse them. We need the expert who sat at the table where credit strategy was designed: who determined the credit box, defined account management strategy, set the rules for approvals, declines, and counter-offers, and owned the logic that governed how a lender treated its customers across the credit lifecycle.

Your mission at Blue Polaris is to transfer that expertise into our practice. Working directly with our automation architects, you will help us understand how banks and lenders actually make credit decisions — the policies, the strategies, the segmentation logic, the account management frameworks — so we can model that thinking into intelligent, automated decisioning systems that we take to market.

This is an advisory and knowledge transfer role. You are the domain authority. You define what good credit strategy looks like. Our technology teams build it.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The right person uses language like this naturally:

  • "I defined our credit strategy for the personal loan portfolio across acquisition, account management, and collections."
  • "I owned the credit box — the eligibility criteria, the risk appetite, the cutoff logic across segments."
  • "I designed the account management strategy — when to increase limits, when to decrease, how we treated different risk tiers."
  • "I set the rules for how we approved, declined, and counter-offered across different customer segments."
  • "I determined how we used bureau data and alternate data to make better credit decisions — not by building models, but by defining the strategy those models were built to support."
  • "I worked with data science and analytics teams to tell them what we needed to decision — they built it, I defined what it should do."

The wrong person uses language like this:

  • "I built scorecards and ML models to improve credit risk prediction."
  • "I implemented the business rule engine and configured the decisioning platform."
  • "I used machine learning techniques to improve credit risk outcomes."
  • "I was the technical lead on the credit decisioning system implementation."

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Credit Strategy Definition & Knowledge Transfer

  • Define and document the credit strategies, account management frameworks, and decisioning logic that governed lending portfolios you have owned or managed.
  • Articulate how credit boxes, risk appetite statements, segmentation logic, and underwriting waterfalls were designed and evolved across products and economic cycles.
  • Explain the decision logic behind approvals, declines, counteroffers, limit management, pricing, and adverse action — in structured, transferable frameworks that Blue Polaris's automation teams can model and implement.
  • Share how you used bureau data, alternate data, and customer behavior signals to inform credit strategy — focusing on the strategic intent, not the technical build.

Account Management & Portfolio Strategy

  • Define account management strategies across the credit lifecycle: limit increases and decreases, balance transfer treatments, hardship programs, early intervention triggers, and collections prioritization logic.
  • Articulate how portfolio performance analytics — vintage curves, roll rates, EPD, delinquency trends — informed strategic adjustments to credit policy and account management frameworks.
  • Share how risk-based pricing strategies were designed and governed, and how pricing decisions were connected to credit risk segmentation.

Go-to-Market & Client Engagement Support

  • Contribute to Blue Polaris's capability collateral — helping us demonstrate to banking clients that we deeply understand how credit decisions are made, not just how to automate them.
  • Support solution design conversations by acting as the credit strategy voice — explaining what banks actually do and what automation can realistically replace or enhance.
  • Review and validate the decisioning frameworks our automation teams build to ensure they accurately reflect real-world credit strategy logic.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master's, MBA, or postgraduate qualification in Finance, Risk Management, or Banking is a strong plus.

Experience — all required:

  • 10+ years of experience on the bank or lender side in credit strategy, credit policy, or account management — owning the decisions, not implementing the systems.
  • Proven track record of defining credit strategy across one or more retail lending products: credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, auto loans, MSME lending, or BNPL.
  • Experience presenting credit strategy recommendations to credit committees, risk committees, or senior leadership and owning the outcome of those decisions.
  • Deep understanding of how credit decisions are governed across the full lending lifecycle — from acquisition and underwriting through to account management, collections, and recovery.
  • Experience working with data science, analytics, and technology teams to define what credit strategy should do — directing their output, not building it yourself.

Domain Knowledge:

  • Credit strategy design: credit box definition, risk appetite, segmentation, underwriting waterfall logic, cutoff management.
  • Account management strategy: limit management, balance strategies, hardship treatments, early warning triggers.
  • Portfolio analytics interpretation: vintage analysis, roll rates, EPD, loss forecasting — using these to inform strategy, not build the models.
  • Regulatory and compliance awareness: understanding how credit decisions must be governed under FCRA, ECOA/Reg B, TILA/Reg Z, UDAAP, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Bureau and data strategy: how to use Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, or alternate data providers to sharpen credit decisions — from a strategy perspective.

KEY SKILLS

  • Ability to articulate complex credit strategy logic in clear, structured, transferable frameworks — you can explain how you made decisions, not just that you made them.
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences — comfortable in a boardroom and in a working session with automation architects.
  • Strategic thinking combined with operational depth — you have designed credit strategy and lived with the portfolio consequences of those decisions.
  • Collaborative approach to knowledge transfer — you are willing to teach, document, and validate what you know so others can build on it.
  • Analytical mindset for interpreting portfolio performance and translating insights into strategic adjustments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience across multiple lending products or multiple institutions — breadth of credit strategy exposure is valued.
  • Familiarity with decision modelling concepts such as DMN (Decision Model and Notation) or exposure to how credit rules are structured in decisioning engines — from a strategy perspective, not a technical build perspective.
  • Experience working in or alongside consulting engagements advising banks on credit strategy transformation.
  • Certifications: FRM, CFA, CRMP, PRM, or equivalent risk management credentials.

WHY JOIN BLUE POLARIS?

  • Innovate: Your credit strategy expertise becomes the foundation for AI-driven decisioning that transforms how banks lend.
  • Global Exposure: Collaborate with Fortune 500 clients and world-class teams across the Americas and beyond.
  • Grow Fast: Bridge the gap between deep credit domain knowledge and the future of automated, intelligent decisioning.
  • Hands-On Impact: Your thinking goes directly into client engagements — not into a document that sits on a shelf.
  • Learn from Experts: Work alongside pioneers in DMN, decision automation, and AI-driven business architecture.
  • Remote-First: Work from anywhere in India in a flexible, high-growth consulting environment.
  • Make a Difference: Help banks across the globe make faster, smarter, and more consistent lending decisions.
