Job Description
Role Summary:
The Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs within the R& D Center (around 250 employees) to ensure a safe and compliant workplace. The role involves conducting risk assessments, supporting laboratory and testing safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, investigating incidents, delivering safety training, and promoting a strong safety culture. This individual will ensure safe environment and work conditions for employees including company assets. The safety officer must stay updated with all safety regulations and consistently implement these practices in the workplace. The Safety Officer works closely with relevant teams to identify hazards, implement preventive measures, and support safe execution of research, development, and prototype testing activities.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Safety Management Implement and maintain safety policies, procedures and standards. Ensure compliance with company HSE requirements and applicable local regulations. Conduct periodic trainings for safety committee and employees, safety inspections and audits. Maintain safety records, Maintain permits, licenses, statutory records, inspection reports, and audit findings. Monitor compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other applicable standards. Support audits from regulatory agencies and customers
2. Laboratory Safety Review laboratory safety procedures before introduction of new experiments or processes. Ensure availability and proper use of PPE. Monitor and ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols. Verify availability & maintenance of safety equipment, Deploy as needed.
3. Risk Assessment & Hazard Management Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA), and risk mitigation planning.
4. Incident Investigation Investigate accidents, incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions and perform root-cause analysis. Develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Maintain incident records and reports.
5. Emergency Preparedness Organize fire drills, evacuation drills, and mock emergency exercises. Coordinate with local emergency services when required.
Ensure emergency equipment readiness.
Requirements - Qualifications and Competence:
Preferred Skills: Education: Bachelor's Degree covering Safety Engineering, Industrial Safety, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), or related field. Certification: Diploma in Industrial Safety, Fire Safety / Emergency Response certification, NEBOSH IGC Experience: at least 5 years of experience in EHS/HSE management. Experience in R& D laboratories, manufacturing, engineering, or testing facilities is essential. Adaptability in a dynamic new age tech environment Knowledge of risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency response.
Technical Skills: Risk Assessment (HIRA/JSA), Incident Investigation Laboratory Safety Management, Chemical Safety, Fire Safety, Electrical Safety ISO 45001 / ISO 14001, Regulatory Compliance Proficient in Microsoft Applications and analytics.
Soft Skills: Strong communication skills (multi-lingual) Training and coaching capability Analytical thinking, Problem-solving ability Attention to detail Good inter-personal skills
