Role Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Tableau Server Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our enterprise Tableau environment. You will be the primary point of contact for platform health, performance tuning, and user governance. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Tableau architecture, security best practices, and the ability to bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and business intelligence needs.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Management: Oversee the installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching of the Tableau Server/Cloud environment. Performance Monitoring: Monitor server health, resource utilization, and background job queues to ensure optimal performance. Troubleshoot and resolve bottlenecks. Security & Governance: Manage user permissions, projects, and site roles. Implement and maintain security protocols (Active Directory/LDAP/SAML/OAuth) to ensure data privacy. Content Administration: Manage content deployment pipelines, monitor workbook performance, and perform regular audits to remove unused or redundant content. Technical Support: Serve as the Tier 2/3 escalation point for internal analysts and developers regarding connectivity, server-side errors, and API-related issues. Automation: Utilize the Tableau REST API, Python (Tabcmd/Tableau Server Client), or Power Shell to automate routine administrative tasks and user provisioning. Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation regarding server configurations, backup/restore procedures, and data source refresh schedules.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years of direct experience managing Tableau Server in an enterprise environment (multi-node clusters preferred).

Technical Proficiency:

Strong understanding of Tableau Server architecture and components (Backgrounder, Data Engine, Viz QL, etc.). Expertise in Tableau Server Command Line Utilities (tabcmd) and Tableau REST API. Experience with database connectivity (SQL, data source optimization, and drivers). Infrastructure Knowledge: Basic knowledge of Windows Server/Linux environments, networking (load balancers, firewalls), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Security: Solid understanding of data governance, row-level security (RLS), and identity management systems. Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

Tableau Server Certified Professional or Tableau Desktop Specialist certification. Experience with CI/CD pipelines for analytics content. Familiarity with Tableau Metadata API and Log Shark for performance analysis. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
