About the OpportunityAn established commercial general contractor is seeking an Estimator to join its preconstruction team, supporting a diverse portfolio of projects across healthcare, life sciences, higher education and institutional construction.This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator with a strong understanding of commercial construction costs, subcontractor procurement and bid preparation to contribute to projects from early conceptual budgeting through final bid submission. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, preconstruction, design teams and trade partners to develop accurate estimates and identify cost-effective construction solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed construction estimates, quantity takeoffs and cost analyses for commercial construction projects.Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing drawings, specifications and bid documents.Solicit, analyze and level subcontractor and supplier bids across all major trades.Develop preliminary budgets, conceptual estimates and detailed estimates at various stages of design.Identify scope gaps, discrepancies, design conflicts and potential project risks before bid submission.Support value engineering initiatives and recommend cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality or project requirements.Assist with bid packages, scope development, subcontractor comparisons and bid tabulations.Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, architects, engineers and owners to validate project scope, pricing and constructability.Maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to strengthen market knowledge and competitive pricing.Assist with estimating handoffs to the project management team following project award.Monitor material pricing, labor costs, market conditions and other factors affecting construction budgets.Ensure estimates are accurate, organized and submitted within established deadlines.QualificationsExperience estimating commercial construction projects for a general contractor or construction management firm.Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, building systems and construction means and methods.Experience preparing quantity takeoffs, trade scopes, bid comparisons and detailed cost estimates.Knowledge of subcontractor procurement and the competitive bidding process.Strong analytical, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating software.Experience with healthcare, life sciences, laboratory, higher education or other complex commercial projects is highly desirable.Preferred ExperienceCandidates with experience in occupied healthcare facilities, laboratory environments, institutional renovations, commercial interiors or ground-up commercial construction will be particularly attractive.Experience with conceptual estimating, design-build delivery, value engineering and preconstruction planning is also beneficial.What’s on OfferOpportunity to join an established and growing commercial construction organization.Exposure to technically challenging projects across healthcare, life sciences and higher education.Collaborative working environment with close interaction between estimating, preconstruction and operations.Opportunity to contribute to projects from initial planning and budgeting through construction.Competitive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience.How to ApplyQualified candidates with commercial construction estimating experience are encouraged to apply. xzbcwsv All applications will be handled confidentially.
