Are you an experienced accounting leader who enjoys balancing financial strategy, technical accounting, and people leadership?We are partnering with an established organization in Colorado Springs seeking a Director of Accounting to lead its accounting function and serve as a key member of the leadership team.This is an opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who can think strategically, communicate financial information effectively, and develop a strong accounting team. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between high-level financial planning and stepping into day-to-day accounting when needed to support the team and keep things moving.
What You'll DoLead and oversee the organization's accounting operations and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory and organizational requirements.Develop and manage organizational budgets, monitor performance, and analyze financial variances.Prepare financial reporting for executive leadership and present financial results to the Board.Oversee month-end close, financial reporting, audits, reconciliations, internal controls, and other core accounting functions.Provide financial analysis and insight to support strategic planning and organizational decision-making.Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team through training, mentorship, and hands-on support.Step into day-to-day accounting functions when needed to troubleshoot issues, support deadlines, and strengthen team capabilities.Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, controls, and workflows.Collaborate with leadership and other departments on organizational initiatives and strategic planning.Foster a team culture built on empathy, respect, accountability, and continuous development.

What We're Looking ForBachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.CPA preferred, but not required.5+ years of progressive accounting experience; 7+ years preferred.2+ years of senior-level leadership or management experience.Strong experience with budgeting, financial reporting, audits, compliance, and internal controls.Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and/or Board-level stakeholders.Experience working within a complex accounting environment with multiple compliance, reporting, or funding requirements.Strong knowledge of accounting systems and technology.Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and team-development skills.Experience in a mission-driven, nonprofit, or similarly complex organization is a plus.
