Job Description

Our client - a respected maritime organisation is hiring a Training Superintendent in Mumbai to enhance the effectiveness of both seagoing and shore-based personnel in Training. The focus is on classroom delivery and building a structured training roadmap that supports safe, compliant, and high-performing operations across the fleet.

Overview: As part of the Training Academy, you will be primarily responsible for developing and delivering comprehensive training programmes for both crew officers and shore-based personnel. The role is hands-on, requiring maritime and educational experience to align training programmes with organisational quality standards and strategic goals.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Design, deliver, and manage the training of crew and shore-based personnel.
  • Identify the training needs, manage the training programs, and development of new courses for the seafarers as per the regulatory and industry practices.
  • Identify best practice training and development needs within the Technical Department through gap and job analysis, on board appraisal, and regular consultation with the Technical and Management Team.
  • Run engine-room focused classroom sessions for officers/crew (shore training environment)
  • Create and refresh training content (presentations, handouts, assessments, case studies) in line with evolving fleet needs
  • Work closely with technical / operations / crewing stakeholders to identify skill gaps and prioritise training topics
  • Track training effectiveness through assessments, feedback and follow-up actions
  • Support internal processes linked to training records, compliance expectations and audit readiness
  • Contribute to annual training scheduling and basic cost planning as required

YOUR PROFILE:

  • Degree holder in Marine Studies, Shipping, or Maritime is preferred
  • Sailed as Chief Engineer for at least 2 contracts
  • Prior exposure to training delivery, shore/classroom experience is required
  • Strong fundamentals in marine engineering operations, safety practices and crew competence expectations
  • Confident communicator who can teach, simplify complex topics, and engage mixed-experience batches
  • Experience in managing and developing training programs
  • Understanding of training and development strategies
  • Experience of identifying training needs based on vetting and technical reports
  • Well updated with the latest regulatory requirements and its implementation
