If the following job requirements and experience match your skills, please ensure you apply promptly.
The opportunityWe’re recruiting a Senior Architect / Programmer Analyst for an established organization with high-volume distribution operations.
This role is for someone who understands how warehouse and transportation operations work—and can get into the code and database that support them. You’ll help maintain and modernize proprietary WMS/TMS applications that are essential to inventory movement, order fulfillment, shipping, and transportation.
The position combines approximately 60% technical leadership and solution architecture with 40% hands-on development. As a senior individual contributor reporting directly to technology leadership, you’ll partner with operations stakeholders, guide technical decisions, and remain actively involved in development and production problem-solving.
An early priority will be structured knowledge transfer from an experienced system expert. Longer term, you’ll help shape these applications through practical, incremental modernization—not a wholesale replacement of the existing WMS.
What you’ll doProvide technical leadership and hands-on development for business-critical warehouse and transportation applications.Partner with business stakeholders to understand operational requirements, prioritize enhancements, and translate business needs into technical solutions.Guide the gradual modernization of legacy PowerBuilder interfaces toward .NET/C# and React-based technologies.Help evaluate and lead a TMS transition, including options to retain and maintain the existing application or migrate to another platform.Manage integration requirements, data flows, dependencies, testing, and migration planning while protecting operational continuity.Design, develop, and maintain backend functionality, application business logic, database interactions, and enterprise integrations.Develop and optimize stored procedures, database logic, and complex queries.Support a Sybase-to-SQL Server migration, including database development and application compatibility.Improve source control, testing, documentation, code review, and release management practices.Document application architecture and business logic, share system knowledge, and provide technical guidance to other developers.
What you bring10+ years of relevant technology experience, including substantial hands-on development and support of warehouse and transportation management applications.Strong functional understanding of warehouse operations, inventory movement, order fulfillment, shipping, and transportation workflows.Meaningful experience with a TMS implementation, replacement, migration, or major integration initiative.Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills, including stored procedures, database programming, and query optimization.Hands-on C#/.NET development experience, or comparable experience maintaining and modernizing complex enterprise applications.Experience supporting customized legacy applications and improving them without disrupting daily operations. The ability to establish technical direction, evaluate design alternatives, and manage application and integration dependencies.Experience troubleshooting production issues in business-critical environments where downtime affects operations.Clear communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical teams, operations leaders, and business stakeholders.Ability to commute to a worksite in the greater Indianapolis area and work onsite five days per week. The exact location will be shared during the recruiting process.
Helpful additional experienceYou do not need every technology below to be considered:PowerBuilder and legacy WMS development.Sybase, particularly migrations to SQL Server.React, Delphi, or Oracle.ERP integrations and supply chain technology.Azure DevOps, Git, Serena PVCS, or similar development tools.On-premises enterprise application environments.High-volume distribution, fulfillment, logistics, or transportation operations.Legacy-system documentation, knowledge transfer, and succession planning.
What matters mostWe’re looking for a combination of warehouse and transportation systems knowledge, hands-on programming ability, and practical technical leadership. Experience owning and evolving customized distribution applications is more important than matching every tool in the environment.
Compensation and benefitsBase salary is $140,000. Bonus details are to be confirmed. xzbcwsv Benefits include health, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, and a 401(k).Interview processThe process includes an initial technical conversation, an onsite technical interview, an HR interview, and a final discussion with technology leadership.
