Senior Software Engineer - Autonomy Frameworks
Torc Robotics · United States
Job Description
Salary: $160,800 - 193,000 per year Requirements:
- We require a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, along with 8+ years of professional software engineering experience; alternatively, a masters degree with 6+ years of experience.
- We value demonstrated success designing and evolving complex production software platforms with ownership of architectural decisions.
- We need deep experience with C++17 and newer language standards.
- We expect comfort using Python for scripting and system integration.
- We look for experience across autonomous systems, robotics, distributed systems, or complex embedded environments using middleware with pub-sub communication patterns.
- We require strong experience with testing, continuous integration, and build systems.
- We need deep systems-level software design experience, including managing technical debt, refactoring large codebases, and evolving platforms while preserving stability and performance.
- We value experience mentoring engineers through technical leadership, architecture reviews, code reviews, and scalable engineering standards.
- We expect strong mastery of software engineering fundamentals, including modular and composable architecture, design patterns, concurrency, testing strategies, and long-term maintainability.
- Bonus experience includes robotics middleware such as ROS 2, distributed systems design, safety-critical software standards such as ISO 26262, SOTIF, or ASPICE, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Bazel, observability and monitoring systems, simulation for regression testing, and schema versioning and conversion at scale.
- We will have you lead the architecture, design, implementation, and evolution of core frameworks that underpin our autonomous driving stack, including state management, inter-component communication, abstraction layers, and shared utilities.
- We will rely on you to guide the technical direction for real-time C++ architectural components that support dependable data flow, component coordination, error handling, and observability across the system.
- You will establish scalable architectural patterns and abstractions that enable autonomous driving capabilities while driving tradeoff discussions and long-term platform decisions.
- You will collaborate closely with our Behavior and Perception teams to maintain clean integration boundaries and coherent shared abstractions.
- You will lead architecture reviews, design discussions, and code reviews while setting engineering standards that strengthen reliability, maintainability, testability, and scalability.
- You will mentor software engineers through technical coaching, architectural guidance, and day-to-day collaboration.
- You will champion architectural quality through validation, testing strategies, observability frameworks, and production-readiness practices.
- You will support root cause analysis of complex platform issues and drive improvements that enhance reliability, performance, and operational resilience.
- You will define and evolve simulation and validation frameworks for rigorous testing across diverse operational scenarios and edge cases.
- You will assess emerging architectural patterns, systems research, and advanced techniques to strengthen our platform foundation and enable future autonomous driving capabilities.
- You will communicate complex architectural concepts and technical vision across engineering, product, and leadership to build alignment on platform direction and strategy.
