Our client is expanding its engineering capabilities to support the continued evolution of its financial technology ecosystem, including payment infrastructure, transaction processing, and modern digital products. The engineering team is responsible for building and enhancing the software platforms, cloud environments, and core services that enable secure, resilient, and high-performance business operations.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the technical development of critical applications and infrastructure across the organization. The role is primarily focused on backend development using Python, with additional responsibility for cloud architecture, data systems, third-party integrations, and customer-facing applications.

The ideal candidate is comfortable operating at both the strategic and implementation levels. You will take ownership of projects from initial design through production deployment, make pragmatic technical decisions, and continuously improve platform performance, reliability, and maintainability as organizational needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, APIs, and application components that support financial technology products and transaction-driven workflows.
• Build scalable, secure, and maintainable software primarily in Python, with Django experience considered a significant advantage.
• Define technical architecture and engineering approaches for complex projects, aligning system design with business priorities and long-term platform objectives.
• Design, deploy, and optimize cloud infrastructure on AWS, with a focus on performance, availability, security, scalability, and cost management.
• Own engineering initiatives throughout the full development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and solution design to implementation, release, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Build and maintain integrations with payment gateways, financial institutions, external service providers, and other third-party systems.
• Develop efficient data models and service architectures capable of supporting increasing transaction volumes and evolving product functionality.
• Partner with frontend engineers and contribute to React and TypeScript development when required to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks affecting application performance, infrastructure stability, security, and system resilience.
• Improve engineering operations through automated testing, deployment pipelines, monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical planning sessions, code reviews, and investigations into production issues.
• Introduce consistent design patterns, coding standards, and reusable engineering practices across the development organization.
• Evaluate competing technical solutions and balance implementation complexity, delivery timelines, scalability, reliability, and infrastructure costs.
• Provide technical mentorship to engineers, encourage knowledge sharing, and support high-quality engineering execution.
• Proactively identify architectural risks, platform constraints, and opportunities to modernize systems and improve engineering effectiveness.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience developing, deploying, and supporting production applications and distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and extensive experience building backend services and APIs; familiarity with Django is highly desirable.
• Thorough understanding of API design, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and relational database modeling.
• Practical experience managing PostgreSQL databases and deploying production workloads on AWS.
• Working experience with React and TypeScript, with the flexibility to contribute across the full technology stack.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver complex technical projects in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain architectural decisions and build consensus among technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience gained through a strong engineering background.

Compensation

Base Salary: $275,000–$315,000
