Safety Manager

Job Description

About the RoleWe build water and wastewater treatment facilities across Arizona — headworks, clarifiers, aeration basins, membrane and filtration buildings, pump stations, digesters, chemical feed systems, and the yards, piping, and structures that tie them together. That work comes with hazards a general contractor doesn't see every day: deep excavations and trenching, confined spaces and permit-required entries, wet wells and lift stations, chlorine and other hazardous chemical systems, high-voltage and complex electrical and instrumentation scopes, crane picks over live plant, and work inside operating facilities where a mistake can interrupt a community's water supply. We're hiring a Safety Manager who owns that risk program from the ground up — someone who can build the plan, train the crews, hold the line in the field, and keep our people going home whole every night. This is a leadership role, not a clipboard role. You'll have the authority to stop work, the ear of project management and ownership, and the standing to say no when a schedule pressure is asking for something unsafe.

What You'll OwnThe safety program. Company-wide policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans built for treatment plant construction — not a generic manual pulled off a shelf. You'll keep them current with OSHA 1926, Arizona requirements, and our clients' own plant safety rules.Field presence. The job is on the site. Daily walkthroughs, pre-task planning, toolbox talks, equipment and rigging inspections, and direct engagement with foremen and crews. You'll be known by name on every project.Training and competency. Onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training — competent person designations for excavation, fall protection, scaffolding, and rigging; confined space entry and rescue; hazard communication; and the site-specific training required inside operating treatment plants.High-risk work planning. Activity hazard analyses, permit-required confined space programs, excavation and trenching plans with protective systems, critical lift plans, lockout/tagout and energized work permits, and hot work programs. You'll write them, review them, and verify they're being followed.Investigations and corrective action. Incident and near-miss investigation with real root cause analysis, corrective actions that actually close, and reporting that meets OSHA recordkeeping and client requirements.Regulatory and client interface. OSHA inspections and inquiries, client safety audits, insurance and prequalification submittals, EMR and TRIR tracking, and the documentation that backs all of it up. In Arizona that means knowing ADOSH and its reporting channels as well as federal OSHA.Culture. Leading indicators, recognition, and a program where crews report hazards because they know something gets fixed — not because they have to.
