Job Description – Actuarial Director

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in actuarial valuation, roll forward, and Embedded Value (EC) activities across multiple US Life Insurance product blocks.
  • Strong knowledge of US Life Insurance products, valuation methodologies, financial reporting, and associated business processes.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, including Balance Sheet and Income Statement, and their interaction with actuarial results.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex actuarial and financial issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Proven ability to review, challenge, and validate technical deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and adherence to business requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple workstreams, managing competing priorities, and ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management and global teams.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor actuarial professionals and build a high-performing team.
  • Strong focus on process improvement, operational efficiency, controls, and continuous enhancement of actuarial processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide oversight for roll forward and EC activities across multiple US Life Insurance product blocks.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of actuarial workstreams, ensuring quality, accuracy, timely execution, and adherence to project and business timelines.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex actuarial investigations, including root cause analysis, reserve movements, assumption changes, new business impacts, and experience variances.
  • Review and challenge Analysis of Movement (AOM), valuation results, reconciliations, and other key actuarial deliverables.
  • Partner with actuarial managers and senior stakeholders on project planning, prioritization, resource allocation, and delivery of key strategic initiatives.
  • Lead internal team operations, including work allocation, capacity planning, progress tracking, quality assurance, and performance management.
  • Establish and maintain robust review and control processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of actuarial calculations and reporting.
  • Leverage strong knowledge of US Life Insurance products, statutory valuation, financial reporting, and actuarial modelling to provide insights and support business decisions.
  • Lead investigations into actuarial and financial variances and communicate findings, implications, and recommended actions to senior stakeholders.
  • Drive process improvements, automation, standardization, and operational efficiencies across actuarial processes.
  • Support audit, regulatory, and management reporting requirements and act as a key point of contact for actuarial deliverables.
  • Develop and mentor actuarial talent, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with global actuarial, finance, technology, and business teams to deliver strategic initiatives and resolve complex business issues.

Qualification

  • Economics Honors degree or equivalent.
  • Actuarial qualification progress with a strong track record toward Fellowship; completion of 10 of 14 Fellowship examinations through IFOA preferred.

Experience

  • 10 - 15 years of experience in the life insurance industry, with significant experience in statutory valuation, financial reporting, actuarial modelling, and related actuarial processes.
  • Strong experience leading valuation and roll forward activities, including reserve movements, assumption changes, new business impacts, and experience variances.
  • Extensive experience performing Analysis of Movement (AOM), reconciling changes in reserves and liabilities, and interpreting actuarial results.
  • Proven experience investigating actuarial and financial variances and translating complex analysis into actionable insights for senior management.
  • Strong experience developing, maintaining, reviewing, and executing actuarial models using Prophet or similar actuarial modelling platforms.
  • Experience leading model testing, validation, implementation, and actuarial process enhancements.
  • Experience managing audit, regulatory, and management reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing and signing off on technical deliverables, performing quality assurance, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of actuarial calculations.
  • Experience managing and mentoring actuarial teams, allocating resources, and driving delivery across multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proven experience working with senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional and global teams.
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements, automation, and standardization initiatives to enhance efficiency and control.
