Job Description
Backend Engineer, Data Platform — Hubble
Remote in India · Full-time contractor · USD 2,000–2,500/month · Preferred start within 4–8 weeks
Hubble is an Amazon advertising analytics and management platform built by the team behind Headline, an Australian agency managing significant Amazon and Walmart advertising budgets across European and US marketplaces.
This is a real product working with paying-customer data and genuine production-scale problems. You’ll be Hubble’s first full-time engineering hire , working directly with the founders and existing development team.
Problems you’ll help solve
- Building reliable ingestion pipelines from Amazon Ads APIs into ClickHouse and supporting data stores.
- Handling retries, duplicate rows, late-arriving data, partial reports, and API rate limits without corrupting customer data.
- Designing ClickHouse schemas and improving query performance for analytical dashboards.
- Building backend APIs for our application and internal automation.
- Creating rate-limit-aware job queues across hundreds of advertising accounts.
- Improving monitoring, deployment safety, incident response, Docker, CI, and our EU-hosted infrastructure.
- Supporting an agent layer that audits accounts, identifies anomalies, and recommends or performs advertising actions.
What you’ll own
Your initial focus will be backend ingestion, data correctness, analytical-data modelling, APIs, query performance, and production reliability.
As you learn the system, your ownership can expand into infrastructure and broader platform architecture with clear priorities and an agreed escalation path. Production support and on-call expectations will be discussed explicitly before an offer.
How we work
We are AI-native and use frontier AI models every day.
We don’t measure how much code you type manually. We care whether you can understand a system, review a diff, identify incorrect assumptions, test generated code, and take responsibility for correctness against live customer data.
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years working on production backend systems: building, deploying, operating, debugging, and improving them.
- Strong SQL and hands-on experience with at least one columnar or analytical database such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, Redshift, Druid, or Snowflake.
- Experience evolving schemas or running migrations against live production data.
- A practical AI-assisted engineering workflow—and the judgment to verify what the tools produce.
Helpful, but not required
- Strong Go or Python experience.
- Container orchestration in production.
- Amazon Ads, martech, or other rate-limited external APIs.
- Distributed queues and asynchronous processing.
- Agent frameworks.
- ClickHouse experience.
Compensation and working arrangement
- USD 2,000–2,500 per month
- Full-time contractor
- Remote within India
- At least four hours of daily overlap with the Berlin working day
- Preferred start within 4–8 weeks; longer notice periods may be considered
Hiring process
- Approximately 10-minute application; no cover letter.
- 30-minute structured conversation.
- 90-minute live paired engineering session using your own AI tools.
- References, with your explicit consent.
- Optional paid final-stage trial, if both sides agree.
- Offer.
There is no take home assignment. We aim to move quickly while giving every candidate a proper human review.
How to apply
Apply here:
A LinkedIn profile or PDF CV is required. Links to public code, technical writing, or other verifiable work are helpful but completely optional—strong work completed inside private company systems is valid.
You may use AI to improve the wording of your application. We do too. The experience and decisions you describe must be your own, and we’ll explore the relevant examples with you during the live process.
