About The Role
Our client, an established Chicago building materials supplier, is looking for a Lead Dispatcher to run day-to-day delivery operations. In a lean, hands-on company, this person is the operational hub: scheduling and leading a union driver team and reporting directly to the CEO. If you want a role with real ownership and a direct line to leadership, this is it.
What You'll Do
Schedule and manage a driver team day to day. Most deliveries are prescheduled, and the rest require real-time scheduling and adjustments.Lead drivers directly by holding driver meetings, coaching, and handling documentation and write-ups.Coordinate across a mixed fleet, including flatbed, dump, and concrete trucks.Work with in-house mechanics when a truck needs a road repair.Keep accurate delivery logs and make sure orders are invoiced correctly.Communicate delivery status and timing to customers as needed.Help roll out a new ERP and dispatch system this spring, including geofencing, real-time status updates, driver phone integration, and e-signature capability.
What You Bring
At least five years of dispatch experience.A manager's mindset: comfortable leading drivers, giving direct feedback, and working with a union workforce.Experience with an ERP system and dispatch software, and comfort learning a new one.Strong recordkeeping and attention to detail.Experience in building materials, construction supply, plumbing or roofing supply, concrete, or a similar delivery-fleet environment is a plus.DOT familiarity or a driving background is a plus.Must live close to the office in Chicago.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with an early start to match the drivers.Busy season runs March through November, with two Saturdays a month (6:30 to 11:30 AM) from April through November.
