Who We Are &amp; Mission of the Office of the Denver District Attorney The mission of the Denver DAs Office is to protect the community, to seek equal justice for all, and to improve the quality and fairness of criminal justice on behalf of the people of Colorado. We achieve that mission through excellence in our work investigating and prosecuting crime, supporting victims and their families, working with the community to prevent crime, and providing fair alternatives to incarceration in appropriate cases. What You'll Do The Denver District Attorneys Office is seeking an experienced criminal attorney to direct our Conviction Review Unit (CRU). The DAs Conviction Review Unit (CRU) reviews the following kinds of cases: Actual innocence. The CRU reviews cases for plausible claims of actual innocence Resentencing Cases Subject to C.R.S. 18-1.3-411, including petitions filed with the court and defendants requests for prosecutor-initiated resentencing Clemency Petitions and Special Needs Parole Requests. Recommendations are made to the governors office on clemency petitions and special needs parole requests. The CRU consists of a Director /Deputy District Attorney, an investigator, and interns who work, often in in collaboration with the applicants defense counsel, to investigate the applicants claims and determine whether to oppose or, where appropriate, support the applicants request for relief. We will focus on candidates who have strong academic backgrounds, substantial experience with criminal trials and appeals, outstanding skills in legal research, analysis, and writing, the ability to work independently, and a desire to work collaboratively with opposing counsel in appropriate cases. Required Minimum Qualifications We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree or Bachelor of Laws Degree Experience: Ten (10) years of experience as an attorney at law in criminal experience, including experience as a prosecutor Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted License/Certifications: Possession of a license to practice law in Colorado from the Colorado Supreme Court at the time of application Application Deadline This position is expected to stay open until Sunday, August 9, 2026.
