Mechanical Maintenance Engineer Location: Barnsley Salary: £36,000 Job Type: Permanent Shift: 4-Shift Rota Industry: Manufacturing / Engineering Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Barnsley We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy manufacturing site in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer looking to develop their career within a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment. Working as part of a dedicated maintenance team, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and fault-finding on a wide range of production machinery and plant equipment. You will play a key role in reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability and ensuring production continues to operate safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on mechanical maintenance role suited to someone who enjoys diagnosing faults, solving technical problems and keeping production machinery running reliably. Key Responsibilities Carry out mechanical maintenance and repairs on production machinery, plant and equipment Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) to minimise breakdowns and production downtime Diagnose and resolve machine breakdowns quickly and effectively Fault find on mechanical systems, including gearboxes and associated machinery Work with and understand pneumatic and hydraulic systems and circuits Liaise effectively with on-site contractors and remote service engineers Use a CMMS maintenance system to accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns and completed work Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of critical engineering spare parts Support continuous improvement and equipment reliability initiatives Provide guidance and mentor apprentices within the maintenance team Work independently and use initiative when responding to breakdowns and technical issues Support the wider engineering team with overtime when required Requirements To be considered for this Mechanical Maintenance Engineer position, you will need: A relevant NVQ Level 3 / City
