Automation Engineer Ansible & Terraform — F5 BIG-IP (DevOps Eng).

Job Description:

We are looking for an engineer to automate and extend F5 BIG-IP configurations and cloud deployments using Ansible. The role involves developing playbooks and custom modules, integrating Jira with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) via Event-Driven Ansible (EDA), managing WAF policies, and setting up observability in GCP/Azure and Splunk. We would also expect candidate to have knowledge and experience on developing new Terraform resources/data sources, fixing provider bugs, improving tests and documentation, and integrating with F5 BIG-IP APIs such as iControl REST, AS3, DO, LTM, GTM, Network, System, and AWAF/ASM features.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, and custom modules for F5 BIG-IP.
• Build or update Terraform resources and data sources
• Troubleshoot configuration drift, CRUD lifecycle issues, import behavior, and acceptance tests.
• Write unit and acceptance tests against BIG-IP environments.
• Build Event-Driven Ansible (EDA) rulebooks triggered by Jira webhooks to automate workflows in AAP.
• Integrate with F5 BIG-IP APIs using AS3, DO, tmsh, LTM, GTM, and AWAF/ASM features.
• Work with F5 Virtual Editions (VE) and networking in GCP and Azure.
• Set up observability, logging, and monitoring using Splunk and native cloud systems.
• Support releases, CI/CD, linting, and dependency updates.
• Troubleshoot end-to-end application traffic paths (Virtual Servers to backend pool members).
• Write Bash scripts and manage Git workflows (PRs, reviews, CI/CD).

Required Skills

• Strong Ansible development experience (Playbooks, Roles, Collections, AAP).
• Experience with Event-Driven Ansible (EDA) and webhook integrations.
• Hands-on experience with F5 BIG-IP (LTM, GTM/DNS, ASM/AWAF, AS3, DO).
• Networking knowledge: virtual servers, pools, monitors, routing, SSL profiles, load balancing.
• Experience developing or maintaining Terraform Providers
• Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON.
• Good understanding of Terraform concepts: resources, data sources, schemas, state, importers, diff suppression, lifecycle behavior.
• Cloud networking experience in GCP and/or Azure.
• Experience with observability tools: Splunk and native cloud logging/monitoring.
• Proficiency in Git and Bash scripting.

Nice to Have

• Python development experience (for custom Ansible modules).
• F5 certification or production BIG-IP administration experience.
• Experience with HashiCorp Terraform Plugin SDK
• Red Hat Ansible certifications.
• Knowledge of GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
• Experience debugging provider acceptance tests
