You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility. Holiday requests are not available.

Unit Details: Patient ratios vary by unit and acuity: ICU is 1:2 based on acuity; PCU and CCU are 1:4 depending on acuity or whether a patient is discharging; medical and surgical are 1:5; and rehabilitation is 1:8 in a team model with an RN, LPN, and tech. In ED Holding, ratios are 1:2 for ICU patients, 1:4 for PCU patients, and 1:5 for MS patients. ICU patients include respiratory failure, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, complicated postoperative patients, CVAs, flap surgeries, post-arrest patients, ETOH, and IVDA. ICU higher-level therapies include Rotoprone, manual prone, hypothermia protocol, CRRT, and TPA; travelers will not take flap-surgery patients. The assignment excludes craniotomies, major traumas, and major cardiothoracic cases. PCU patients include respiratory compromise, sepsis, renal failure, bleeding disorders, general medical-surgical conditions, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and general or orthopedic cases. MS Oncology includes neutropenic and postoperative patients. Psychiatric patients are also included in the Med-Surg areas. General medical-surgical patients include postoperative, COPD, CHF, sepsis, DVT, AKI, dialysis, and COVID cases. MS Ortho includes total joints, postsurgical patients, and general medical overflow. MS Palliative includes general medical patients with pneumonia, sepsis, CHF, COPD, AKI, DVT, or PE; occasional surgical patients and COVID patients are also included. COVID is common on the Med-Surg floor. Neuro cases include stroke, spinal cord injury, TBI, multi-trauma, post-COVID, and post-ICU cases. The rehabilitation unit includes ventilators and tracheostomies, and respiratory therapy provides just-in-time training; patients are generally at a Med-Surg level of acuity. ED Holding is the primary unit for this assignment. It has mixed diagnoses, including isolation and non-ambulatory patients, and is fast-paced. The ACLS transport RN transports patients throughout the hospital, including all inpatient units, the ED, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PACU, and Cath Lab. After 2300, when transports slow, the ACLS RN supports ED Holds with breaks and medication administration when not transporting. RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage is available 24/7. Unit equipment includes Alaris and Pyxis.

Shift & Scheduling: Flexible contract hours: 48 per week may be available. Every other weekend is required; back-to-back weekends are rarely required. Self-scheduling is not available, and there is no on-call requirement. The schedule will be provided at least 1 week in advance and is made in 3-week increments for travelers. You must call the RMC staffing office at least 30-45 mins before each shift to receive your assignment; this is the preferred option.

Floating Requirements: Floating is mainly to ED Holding and supports GSH 1 Dally/2 River North and South and Float Pool teams. Float areas include MSICU, CVICU, PCU, 2R PCU Observation, CCU, medical, surgical, Flex Unit, inpatient rehabilitation, ER Holding, and COVID overflow. No specific CVICU experience is needed for this float assignment. Floating may occur for partial shifts. When ICU or PCU nurses float to MS, the ratio is 1:5.
