Job Description Summary: Salary: $26.82 - $40.22 per hour

The Engineer I is an entry level position that acquires limited knowledge of the District Engineering Department standards, practices, and infrastructure facility operations. The Engineer I will collect data, gather information or documents, perform routine technical work, and standard computation or analysis.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • The work performed will be under the direct supervision of or reviewed by a Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Under direct supervision, performs routine work which involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with standard features for which there are precedents
  • Utilize District software and interpersonal skills to research project information
  • Apply conventional computational techniques and standard analysis principles
  • Use prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced Engineer
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
  • Acquire knowledge of standard software applications and technical procedures to prepare drawings (CAD or GIS) and visual aids to assist with project analysis and communications
  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes
  • Coordinate with technicians and administrative staff
  • Observe District Operations at infrastructure facilities and construction activities
  • Develop an awareness of professional and ethical responsibilities
  • Monitor flood levels, calibrate watershed basins and sub-basins, report current and expected reservoir and stream data, and recommend actions to Flood Team Lead
  • Participate in professional societies
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic District levels of service
  • Continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts
  • Perform other duties as required

Required Experience:

  • None

Desired Experience:

  • Engineering Intern
  • One (1) year of related experience

Required Education/Certification/License:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in an applicable engineering discipline from an ABET/EAC accredited program
  • Valid Texas drivers license

Desired Education/Certification/License:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT)
  • Course work in a related field

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically resides within an office or cubicle and will have field work that may expose the employee to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee must be able to work long hours under stress in flood situations.
