UAV Design Engineer

About the Role We are looking for a UAV Design Engineer with 2–4 years of experience to contribute to the design, development, and refinement of UAV airframes and mechanical systems. The role involves taking ownership of mechanical design activities from concept development through prototyping, testing, and production. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on CAD skills and the ability to work closely with the R&D and manufacturing teams. Job Responsibilities Design and develop UAV airframes, mechanical structures, payload mounts, landing gear, and other mechanical assemblies based on functional and operational requirements. Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, 2D manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation using CAD tools such as SolidWorks. Perform design calculations and basic engineering analysis related to strength, weight, structural integrity, vibration, and manufacturability . Develop prototypes and work closely with the R&D, assembly, and manufacturing teams to validate and improve mechanical designs. Conduct design reviews and identify opportunities for weight reduction, structural improvement, cost optimization, and improved manufacturability . Troubleshoot mechanical and structural issues identified during UAV assembly, ground testing, and flight testing , and implement appropriate design modifications. Coordinate with electronics, embedded, systems, and production teams to ensure proper integration of mechanical, electrical, and payload components . Maintain proper design revisions, BOMs, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation throughout the product development lifecycle. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline . 2–4 years of relevant professional experience , with prior hands-on experience specifically in UAV/Drone design and development being mandatory . Strong hands-on proficiency in SolidWorks is mandatory , including 3D part modelling, assembly design, and detailed 2D engineering drawings. Proven experience in designing and developing UAV airframes, structural components, payload mounts, landing gear, and other drone mechanical systems . Good understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, manufacturing processes, tolerances, fasteners, structural design, and weight optimization for UAV applications. Experience taking mechanical designs through prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, design modifications, and design validation . Ability to independently understand engineering requirements, develop practical UAV designs, and collaborate effectively with R&D, electronics, systems, production, and flight-test teams in a fast-paced startup environment.
