Job Description

THE TEAM YOU WILL BE JOINING:

  • A trusted commercial real estate leader that is a well-established, full-service commercial real estate firm headquartered in Charlotte, NC, with a strong reputation since 1987.
  • Fast-paced, high-volume AP team that supports a large portfolio of 100+ managed retail properties across multiple states, requiring attention to detail and process efficiency.
  • Collaborative culture with a close-knit finance and property management team that values accountability, cross-functional support, and service excellence to internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT THEY OFFER YOU:

  • A role with impact where you’ll directly support the financial operations of over 100 active retail shopping centers — a chance to gain deep industry exposure and contribute to accurate, timely payments that keep properties running smoothly.
  • This is a great opportunity to build or expand your experience within the commercial real estate industry, particularly if you’re interested in systems like Yardi and property accounting.
  • Supportive Team Environment: Work alongside professionals who value your input, encourage collaboration, and foster a results-driven but balanced work culture.

WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT:

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of properties, including bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, prepaid and deferred items, depreciation, and amortization
  • Perform month-end close on a timely basis and prepare balance sheets, income statements, and general ledger detail for each property
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including escrows, and loan balances
  • Review and analyze budget-to-actual and variance reports; provide commentary to management and property managers
  • Ensure proper capitalization of improvements, leasing costs, and development costs
  • Monitor and track real estate tax, insurance, and other recurring obligations
  • Support year-end close, audit, and tax preparation, including coordination with outside CPAs and delivery of schedules and workpapers
  • Help maintain and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses and reports for ownership and management
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and take on additional duties as needs arise in a small company

BACKGROUND THAT FITS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting through financial statement preparation
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple properties, deadlines, and priorities
