Accountant/Bookkeeper

Seeking an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper for a position with an engineering consulting firm in Charleston, SC. In this role, you will manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, assist with payroll, input costs associated with project accounting, AP/AR, prep company financials for an external CPA firm, and general administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage accounts payable, including invoice entry, coding to appropriate projects and cost centers, and scheduling vendor payments.
• Oversee accounts receivable, preparing and issuing client invoices, recording receipts, and following up on outstanding balances.
• Perform daily data entry into QuickBooks Online, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly and supported by documentation.
• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including month-end closing entries and account reconciliations.
• Assist with preparation of financial reports and project accounting summaries for management review.
• Support compliance with GAAP and local tax regulations by organizing records, supporting filings, and responding to auditor or CPA requests.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience as a bookkeeper handling payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable in a construction company or engineering firm (or another industry where job cost accounting was required)
• Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online for day-to-day bookkeeping and reporting.
• Demonstrated experience with job costing and project accounting, including tracking expenses and labor by project.
• High level of data entry accuracy, with strong attention to detail and ability to spot and resolve discrepancies.
• Confident communicator able to collaborate with project managers, vendors, and leadership on financial matters.
