Position: Medical Superintendent (MS)
Location: Rukmani Birla Hospital, Jaipur (CK Birla Hospitals)
Position Summary
The Medical Superintendent (MS) is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for all clinical services within the hospital. The role ensures the delivery of safe, ethical, patient-centric, and evidence-based healthcare while maintaining compliance with statutory and accreditation requirements. The MS works closely with clinical consultants, nursing leadership, quality, operations, and support services to achieve superior clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and an exceptional patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Governance
- Provide overall leadership for medical services and clinical administration.
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, evidence-based patient care across all specialties.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, mortality, morbidity, infection control, and patient safety indicators.
- Lead implementation of clinical protocols, SOPs, and treatment guidelines.
- Chair Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), mortality meetings, credentialing committees, and other clinical governance forums.
2. Medical Administration
- Supervise and coordinate activities of consultants, resident doctors, medical officers, and clinical departments.
- Oversee doctor onboarding, credentialing, privileging, and periodic performance evaluation.
- Ensure adequate medical staffing and efficient duty roster management.
- Resolve clinical escalations and facilitate interdepartmental coordination.
3. Quality & Accreditation
- Drive compliance with NABH, NABL, statutory, and regulatory standards.
- Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Monitor quality indicators and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support accreditation audits and quality certification programs.
4. Regulatory & Medico-Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable healthcare laws, biomedical waste regulations, clinical establishment norms, fire safety, and statutory requirements.
- Oversee medico-legal cases and ensure timely documentation and reporting.
- Liaise with government authorities and regulatory agencies as required.
5. Patient Safety & Experience
- Foster a culture of patient safety and ethical medical practice.
- Review patient complaints related to clinical care and ensure timely resolution.
- Promote patient-centred care and improve patient satisfaction metrics.
- Lead initiatives to reduce clinical risks and adverse events.
6. Infection Prevention & Control
- Lead the Infection Prevention and Control Committee.
- Monitor HAIs, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection control practices.
- Ensure compliance with hospital infection control protocols.
7. Operational Excellence
- Collaborate with Operations, Nursing, HR, Pharmacy, Diagnostics, and Support Services to optimize clinical workflows.
- Improve bed utilization, patient flow, emergency response, OT utilization, and discharge processes.
- Monitor key operational and clinical KPIs.
8. Medical Education & Research
- Promote Continuous Medical Education (CME) programs.
- Encourage clinical research, publications, and evidence-based practices.
- Mentor junior doctors and residents.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
9. Financial Stewardship
- Participate in annual budgeting and resource planning.
- Ensure optimal utilization of clinical resources while maintaining quality standards.
- Support cost optimization initiatives without compromising patient care.
10. Leadership & Culture

Qualifications
- MBBS (Mandatory)
- MHA or MD/DNB/MBA in a Hospital Administration
Experience
- 12-15 years of post-qualification experience in multispecialty or tertiary-care hospitals.
- Minimum 5 years in a senior medical administration or Medical Superintendent role.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals is essential.
- Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, quality management and hospital operations.
