Job Description
Senior Network Engineer – Enterprise & K-12 Infrastructure
Location: West Virginia – Field-Based / On-Site
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Senior
Compensation: $105,000–$135,000+ based on experience, certifications, and technical capability
IMPORTANT: You Must Be Based in West Virginia
Candidates must currently live in West Virginia or be willing to relocate to West Virginia before beginning the position.
This is not a remote-only or work-from-anywhere network engineering position.
Our Senior Network Engineers design networks, but they also physically implement them.
You will regularly work in K-12 schools, government facilities, enterprise customer locations, MDFs, IDFs, network closets, and other infrastructure environments throughout West Virginia.
You should be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and doing hands-on work including racking and connecting switches, installing and replacing wireless access points, leading network cutovers, troubleshooting physical infrastructure, and working alongside field technicians and structured cabling teams.
We are looking for an engineer who is equally comfortable designing a network and helping deploy it.
About the Role
Advantage Technology is looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, troubleshoot, and lead enterprise networking projects throughout West Virginia.
A significant portion of our work supports K-12 schools, state and local government, and other complex multi-site customer environments.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving difficult networking problems, leading projects, working directly with customers, and taking technical ownership from design through implementation.
You will have exposure to multiple networking platforms rather than being limited to a single manufacturer or environment.
Technologies You’ll Work With
Our networking practice includes technologies such as:
Extreme Networks
Extreme Fabric Connect
ExtremeCloud IQ
Cisco
Cisco Meraki
HPE Aruba
Juniper Mist
Fortinet / FortiGate
Enterprise switching and routing
High-density wireless
Network segmentation
VPN and WAN infrastructure
Multi-building and campus networks
Experience with Extreme Networks, Extreme Fabric Connect, or ExtremeCloud IQ will immediately get our attention.
However, Extreme experience is not required.
An excellent engineer with a strong Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Juniper, ISP, telecom, or enterprise networking background can be very successful in this position.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Network Engineer, you may:
Design complete wired and wireless network solutions
Lead major switching and wireless infrastructure refresh projects
Design Layer 2 and Layer 3 architectures
Configure enterprise switching, routing, and redundancy
Lead network migrations and production cutovers
Design VLAN and network segmentation strategies
Design and deploy high-density wireless environments
Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, VPNs, and WAN connectivity
Diagnose complex production networking problems
Deploy and support multi-building and campus networks
Lead MDF and IDF infrastructure modernization
Perform network assessments and develop recommendations
Create implementation, migration, and cutover plans
Stage, install, and validate network equipment
Test and validate network performance following deployments
Develop technical documentation and network diagrams
Serve as technical lead on customer projects
Work directly with customers on network architecture and strategy
Mentor and develop earlier-career engineers
Coordinate with project managers, field technicians, and structured cabling teams
Travel throughout West Virginia and occasionally the surrounding region based on project requirements
K-12 & Public-Sector Infrastructure
A major focus of this position is supporting schools, state and local government, municipalities, and other public-sector organizations.
Projects may include:
District-wide network refreshes
Core and access switching upgrades
High-density wireless modernization
Extreme Fabric deployments
Campus and multi-building networking
Firewall modernization
Network segmentation
Internet and WAN migrations
MDF and IDF modernization
Production troubleshooting
Wireless performance improvements
Network architecture modernization
These are live, mission-critical customer environments. Planning, communication, troubleshooting, documentation, and execution all matter.
What We’re Looking For
Strong candidates will have significant experience with several of the following:
Enterprise switching
Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking
Routing
VLANs
Enterprise wireless
Network segmentation
Firewalls
VPN technologies
WAN connectivity
High-availability networking
Network migrations and cutovers
Complex network troubleshooting
Campus or multi-site network environments
Experience working in any of the following environments can translate particularly well:
K-12 education
Higher education
State or local government
Enterprise IT
Healthcare
Telecom
Broadband
Internet service providers
Technology consulting or integration
Technologies That Will Get Our Attention
Experience with any combination of the following is particularly valuable:
Extreme Fabric Connect
ExtremeCloud IQ
Extreme Networks switching
Cisco enterprise switching and routing
Cisco Meraki
Fortinet / FortiGate
HPE Aruba
Juniper Mist
Enterprise wireless design
You do not need experience with every platform listed.
We value strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn new technologies.
Certifications
Relevant certifications may include:
CCNA
CCNP
Extreme Networks certifications
Fortinet certifications
HPE Aruba certifications
Juniper certifications
CWNA / CWNP
Certifications are valuable, but demonstrated engineering capability, troubleshooting ability, and real-world experience are more important.
Who Will Excel Here
This position is a strong fit for an engineer who:
Enjoys solving difficult networking problems
Likes working hands-on with infrastructure
Can take technical ownership of projects
Is comfortable making engineering decisions
Communicates effectively with customers
Can lead implementations and production cutovers
Takes pride in clean, professional, well-documented work
Can operate independently without constant direction
Enjoys mentoring developing engineers
Wants exposure to large and complex network environments
Wants more responsibility and influence than they may have on a large internal IT team
Why Advantage Technology
At Advantage Technology, you will not be limited to maintaining the same internal network every day.
You will work across multiple customer environments, technologies, and project types. You may design one environment, lead a major network refresh in another, troubleshoot a difficult production issue somewhere else, and help mentor another engineer along the way.
Our engineers have the opportunity to influence architecture, lead major projects, develop new technical skills, and see the real-world results of the networks they build.
Advantage Technology is a growing technology services company providing advanced networking, cybersecurity, managed services, Microsoft, cloud, physical security, and professional services throughout the region.
