Senior Consultant - Product Design Engineering (Contractor)We are seeking an experienced Senior Consultant in Product Design Engineering to provide contract or freelance services on projects associated with our London studio. The anticipated engagement is for three months or longer, with the scope and terms to be agreed.PDD is a product and experience innovation consultancy working across healthcare, consumer and industrial sectors. Our approach brings together human sciences, design and engineering to create products that meet people’s needs and help clients achieve their ambitions.You will contribute specialist expertise from concept development through to production, balancing usability and aesthetic appeal with technical performance, materials and manufacturability. Assignments may include developing concepts, assessing feasibility, creating detailed CAD models, specifying designs for manufacture and coordinating prototypes for testing.Depending on the agreed scope, you may also provide technical project leadership, coordinate contributions from other specialists, prepare project documentation and communicate with clients and suppliers.We are looking for strong SolidWorks modelling and surfacing skills, good technical sketching ability, and sound knowledge of manufacturing processes. Clear communication and experience of managing technical projects are essential, alongside a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.Experience with engineering calculations, medical devices or other regulated products, practical workshop activities, rendering, Adobe Illustrator, Arduino or Python would be useful.This engagement offers the opportunity to apply your expertise to varied product development challenges, collaborating with PDD’s researchers, designers and engineers to deliver agreed project outcomes.
