Electricity Markets Consultant (Pakistan)

Blake Clough Ltd · Karachi, Karachi District; Sindh, Pakistan

FULL TIME

Job Description

We are looking for an Energy Markets Consultant to join our growing team, delivering consultancy projects that bring together technical, commercial and regulatory aspects within the energy sector. You will work closely with colleagues across Blake Clough to provide practical advice and analysis to clients developing, operating and investing in renewable generation, battery storage, onshore and offshore wind and other energy assets.

The role will involve delivering electricity market analysis and advisory assignments, including revenue and commercial modelling, network charging assessments, and support with metering, settlement and market entry. Other examples include Capacity Market and Contracts for Difference applications, regulatory interpretation and technical and commercial due diligence.

You will help establish client requirements, undertake analysis, prepare clear reports and recommendations, and present findings in client meetings. Working with project managers and technical specialists, you will be responsible for completing your work to agreed scopes, timescales and quality standards, with increasing ownership of assignments as your experience develops.

Depending on your skills and interests, you may also develop and apply our in-house modelling tools to address client questions, or support wider consultancy projects covering energy strategy, hydrogen, industrial decarbonisation and integrated energy systems.

Experience in any electricity market is welcome; prior knowledge of the GB market is desirable, and training and support will be provided. As part of our international consultancy team, you will also have opportunities to develop proposals, build client relationships and support the growth of our energy markets services.

The Individual

We welcome applications from strong graduates with an excellent academic record, as well as candidates with relevant professional experience. We are looking for individuals who can quickly grasp complex concepts, apply strong numerical and analytical reasoning, and exercise sound judgement when solving unfamiliar problems. Applicants should be able to demonstrate these abilities through their academic achievements, project work or professional experience, alongside an interest in electricity markets and a practical approach to delivering work for clients.

The following capabilities and experience are desirable:

  • A degree in energy economics, electrical engineering, energy systems, economics, mathematics or a related discipline. Relevant postgraduate study would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of electricity markets, energy systems or energy regulation, gained through university study, research or professional experience. Knowledge of any electricity market is welcome; prior GB market experience is not essential.
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills, with the ability to interpret results, assess assumptions and draw clear conclusions.
  • Experience using Excel for analysis or modelling. Programming skills, particularly Python, or experience with mathematical optimisation would be beneficial.
  • An interest in the commercial aspects of energy projects, such as electricity prices, battery revenues, network charges and investment decisions.
  • The ability to interpret complex information, including market rules and technical documents, and translate it into practical advice.
  • Excellent written English and report‑writing skills, with the ability to explain findings clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different offices.
  • A client‑focused approach, with attention to detail and the organisational skills to deliver accurate work within agreed timescales.
  • Initiative, sound judgement and a willingness to learn unfamiliar subjects and solve challenging problems.
