Urgent Care Veterinarian
Tempus Veterinary Recruitment · United States
Job Description
Introduction
Bringing Urgent Care into a hospital where General Practice, Emergency and advanced Specialty medicine all sit under the same roof, this hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is looking to welcome a full-time Urgent Care Veterinarian. Providing care for dogs and cats, the hospital offers considerably more clinical resources than a typical standalone Urgent Care setting, with advanced imaging, surgery and on-site specialist support available when cases become more involved. It creates a nice middle ground for someone who enjoys the pace and variety of urgent cases while also valuing the ability to collaborate with other disciplines when a patient needs care beyond the initial work-up.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of Urgent Care responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to assess and manage a diverse caseload of same-day and more immediately unwell patients across medical, diagnostic and surgical presentations. You'll take ownership of cases from initial assessment and diagnostic investigation through treatment planning and ongoing management, while having Emergency and Specialty clinicians available when patients require a higher level of care or input from another discipline. The hospital specifically values collaboration, teaching and continued learning, so there's plenty of opportunity to discuss more complicated cases and draw on the experience around you rather than working through everything in isolation. With no minimum experience requirement specified in the advert, the focus is instead on finding a veterinarian committed to high-quality medicine, teamwork and continuing to develop throughout their career.
Practice Details
The hospital combines General Practice, Urgent and Emergency Care with advanced Specialty services, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging and Rehabilitation. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, CT, MRI, Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, Laparoscopy and Therapeutic Laser, alongside advanced surgical and diagnostic facilities. Specialist capabilities extend into Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery, TPLO, Total Hip Replacement, Arthroscopy, advanced endoscopic and interventional procedures and physical rehabilitation, giving the Urgent Care team a particularly strong referral pathway when cases require further investigation or treatment. Published Primary and Specialty hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Sunday closed, while the hospital confirms that doctors are staffed 24 hours a day for Emergency, Critical Care and hospitalization.
Team
The hospital has a genuinely multidisciplinary setup, bringing its Urgent Care team together with General Practice veterinarians and board-certified specialists in Internal Medicine and Surgery, alongside experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians and wider clinical support professionals. The current Primary Care roster includes 3 veterinarians and 3 Certified Veterinary Technicians, while the Specialty service adds board-certified clinicians and dedicated specialty technicians. That creates plenty of people to bounce ideas off when an Urgent Care case becomes more involved, with the added benefit of being able to involve another department rather than simply referring patients elsewhere whenever their needs move beyond the scope of Urgent Care.
