Kafka Platform Engineer

Location: Hybrid in Denver, CO

Rate: 60-75/hr

About the Role:

If you enjoy keeping critical data systems running smoothly and want a front-row seat to a major cloud transition, this one is for you. You’ll join a collaborative data platform team that owns the engineering, administration, and day-to-day care of enterprise streaming and big data platforms across on-prem and AWS. As those platforms move to the cloud, you’ll be a trusted voice in keeping Kafka reliable, secure, and fast for the application teams who depend on it, and in making every cutover a smooth one.

What You’ll Do:

• Administer and support Kafka across on-prem and AWS MSK, including incident response, root-cause analysis, and on-call participation
• Manage topics, partitions, security, and performance tuning to keep the platform reliable and scalable
• Partner on moving workloads from on-prem to AWS MSK, including data validation and rollback planning
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform and GitLab CI/CD
• Create Datadog dashboards and alerting to catch issues early and reduce time to resolution
• Advise producer and consumer application teams on client configuration, troubleshooting, and best practices

What You Bring:

• 5+ years in data, platform, or infrastructure engineering, including 4+ years running Kafka in production
• Hands-on administration of Cloudera and Confluent Platform
• Production experience with AWS MSK (IAM auth, networking) and solid AWS fundamentals
• Strong Terraform and GitLab CI/CD experience
• Hands-on Datadog monitoring, dashboards, and alerting
• Strong Linux and scripting skills (Bash, Python) with on-call and incident response experience
• Preferred: MirrorMaker 2, Replicator, or cluster linking experience from platform migrations
