Job Description

Job Description

One of our international clients is looking for a Management Accountant to lead a finance team and run an AI-assisted accounting function. This role suits an accountant who already uses Claude and MCP connectors in daily work, and who wants to build a finance function where AI handles routine processing and people focus on analysis, control and decisions. The role also works with our development team to automate finance workflows in the Ecosystem portal.

Working hours

Online hours are to be 8am NZ to 2pm NZ. The remainder of the hours can be worked within the applicant's own timezone.

Key responsibilities

Team leadership

  • Lead, coach and set objectives for three finance staff, including workload planning and performance reviews.
  • Train the team to use Claude and MCP connectors safely and effectively in their daily work.

Management accounting and reporting

  • Own the month-end close and produce monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards and commentary to the Senior Management Team.
  • Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and variance analysis.
  • Track recurring-revenue and customer metrics (MRR, churn, revenue per site, customer profitability).

AI-assisted finance operations

  • Design and run accounting workflows that use Claude with the Xero MCP connector and Microsoft 365 connectors (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Automate routine tasks such as invoice review, aged receivables follow-up, reconciliations and report drafting.
  • Work with Netfone's development team on the Ecosystem automation project: identify manual, error-prone finance workflows, define requirements, and test and sign off the automated processes.
  • Set controls for AI use: human review of outputs, access permissions, audit trails and data privacy.

Credit management

  • Set and apply credit policy, credit limits and customer credit assessments.
  • Analyse aged receivables and refer overdue accounts to Netfone's external debt management company, Under Control.
  • Manage the relationship with Under Control, track referred debts and recoveries, and report on outcomes.
  • Report on debtor days, bad-debt risk and cash collection to senior management.

Contract management

  • Maintain the register of customer and supplier contracts, including renewal dates, pricing and billing terms.
  • Make sure billing in Xero matches contracted terms and service packs.
  • Resolve customer billing queries promptly, correct errors and fix their root cause.
  • Review contract terms for financial risk and support negotiations.

Compliance and control

  • Manage GST and other tax obligations across the countries Netfone operates in.
  • Maintain internal controls and prepare for the annual audit.
  • Work with external accountants and auditors.

Essential requirements

  • Xero Advisor Certification (current).
  • Degree in accounting or finance, and a recognised professional qualification (CA ANZ, CPA, CIMA or equivalent), or close to completing one.
  • At least 5 years in management accounting, with at least 2 years leading a team.
  • Advanced, hands-on skills with MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors, including connecting AI tools to accounting and business systems.
  • Proven expertise using Claude for accounting work, demonstrated at interview.
  • Experience in contract management, including tracking terms, renewals and billing alignment.
  • Experience in credit management: credit assessment, collections, and debtor analysis and reporting.
  • Track record of reporting to and presenting to senior management.
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Very high level of attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience working in the Asia Pacific region, in English-speaking roles.
  • Multi-entity and multi-currency accounting (NZD and AUD).
  • Experience in a SaaS, telecommunications or technology business with subscription billing.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand and Australian tax and GST rules.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Claude connectors for Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Experience introducing new systems or automation into a finance team.

Personal attributes

  • High attention to detail, and checks AI output rather than trusting it blindly.
  • Clear communicator who can explain numbers to non-finance managers.
  • Curious about new tools and keen to improve processes.
  • Handles confidential financial and customer data with integrity.
