Full Stack Engineer (MERN + Python)

Firehorse, a US-based company, is hiring a Full Stack Engineer with 4+ years of experience to work across our insurance platform: React and Node.js (MERN) web applications on the front and Python AWS Lambda processing pipelines behind them. This is one role, not two. We are looking for someone equally comfortable shipping a React screen, an Express API, and a Python Lambda that processes insurance documents, with clear written and spoken English for direct stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop serverless Python services on AWS Lambda for document processing and data pipelines.
• Develop scalable REST APIs and reusable frontend components.
• Work with MongoDB and Amazon DynamoDB, plus S3, SQS, and event-driven AWS services.
• Integrate LLM-powered extraction and compliance checks into production workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues end to end, from the UI through the API to the Lambda logs.
• Collaborate directly with clients, designers, QA, and other engineers.

Technical Requirements

• 4+ years of professional full-stack development experience.
• Strong Python skills, including production experience with AWS Lambda.
• Experience with MongoDB and/or DynamoDB, REST APIs, Git, HTML, CSS, and responsive development.
• Working knowledge of AWS (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, SQS, CloudWatch) and serverless deployment (SAM, CDK, or similar).
• Experience writing automated tests (e.g., Jest, pytest).
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and debugging.

Candidate Profile

• Strong programming, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and communicate clearly.

Nice to Have

• Experience with LLM APIs (Anthropic / OpenAI) or document extraction and OCR pipelines.
• Insurance, fintech, or document-heavy domain experience.
• Docker and CI/CD (GitHub Actions) experience.
