About the RoleWe are seeking a Vice President-level Backend Software Engineer to help build and scale the backend services powering a leading investment technology platform. This is an opportunity for a senior, hands-on engineer to take ownership of critical systems, influence technical decisions, and deliver scalable solutions in a sophisticated, cloud-based environment.You will work closely with engineering and product teams to transform business needs into reliable, high-performing software. The platform leverages technologies such as Scala, Ruby, and Python, but experience with these specific languages is not required. We are looking for strong engineers with solid backend fundamentals, a track record of delivering production systems, and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.Own projects end to end, from architecture and technical design through production deployment and ongoing support.Translate complex business and product requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions.Contribute to architectural decisions, code reviews, and engineering best practices.Build reliable, secure, and observable systems with a strong focus on performance and production stability.Collaborate with Product Managers and engineering partners to deliver impactful solutions.Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate implementation, troubleshoot issues, refine specifications, and improve code quality.
Qualifications8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a modern programming language such as Java, Python, Ruby, Scala, or TypeScript.5+ years of experience building backend services, developing APIs, or integrating API-driven systems.Strong understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases, data modeling, and backend architecture.Experience developing cloud-based applications and working with distributed systems in production environments.Familiarity with automated testing, version control, CI/CD, and modern software delivery practices.Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex technical projects and support services throughout their lifecycle.Strong problem-solving skills, technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate across engineering and product teams.Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve planning, implementation, debugging, and validation.
