Job Description

Job Summary
The OT Technician prepares the operating room, maintains a highly sterile environment, calibrates specialized surgical machinery, and directly assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgical operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Operative Preparation
Sterilize the environment : Perform room fumigation and deep sanitization according to hospital protocols.
Set up instruments : Arrange, count, and prepare specific surgical instrument trays and trolleys requested for the scheduled procedure.
Calibrate machinery : Check, troubleshoot, and test the functionality of anesthesia machines, ventilators, monitors, and centralized oxygen lines.
Patient transit : Assist in transferring the patient safely from the stretcher onto the operating table and position them as required for the surgery.
2. Intra-Operative Assistance
Scrub assistance : Pass sterile instruments, sutures, sponges, and surgical supplies to the surgeon seamlessly during live procedures.
Maintain fluid systems : Operate and manage surgical suction apparatus and wall suctions during deep-cavity work.
Anesthesia support : Provide physical and resource support to the anesthesiologist by passing specialized drugs, IV lines, or intubation kits.
Strict infection control : Monitor the sterile field constantly and immediately flag any breaks in aseptic technique.
3. Post-Operative Tasks & Maintenance
Count Verification : Perform mandatory final counts of surgical needles, instruments, and sponges with the floor nurse to prevent retained objects.
Instrument turnaround : Clean, decontaminate, and send used surgical machinery and tool kits back to the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD).
Waste management : Safely dispose of hazardous biomedical waste, chemicals, and sharps following legal healthcare regulations.
Log management : Update surgical data sheets, maintain detailed inventory lists, and log equipment maintenance charts.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Education : Diploma or B. Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or a closely related paramedical field.
Experience : Minimum 1–3 years of hands-on experience in a multi-specialty hospital environment preferred (freshers with internship experience can apply).
Technical Skills : Deep working knowledge of aseptic/sterile techniques, basic surgical instruments, C-arm handling, and emergency clinical codes.
Physical Stamina : Capability to stand for prolonged periods, lift heavy machinery attachments, and assist in transferring patients.
Soft Skills : Strong collaborative communication, high attention to detail, and a calm demeanor under high-stress emergency conditions
