Scope of PositionThe Controller oversees all accounting and financial functions, including budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, audits, and internal controls. This role works closely with the executive team to provide strategic financial guidance, ensure sound fiscal management, and support the company’s continued growth in the civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying sectors.
Essential ResponsibilitiesOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing accounting.Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and forecasts for leadership review.Develop and monitor annual budgets, cash flow projections, and financial performance metrics.Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.Provide financial analysis and insights to support business decisions and strategic planning.Collaborate with project managers to monitor project budgets, billing, and profitability.Supervise and mentor accounting staff, promoting a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.Evaluate and implement accounting systems, software, and process improvements as needed.
Primary QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role.Experience in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) or professional services industry is highly desirable.Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance requirements.Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Deltek Ajera) and MS Office Suite.Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.
