Created in 1993, LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the city and county of Los Angeles. As the lead agency in the HUD-funded Los Angeles Continuum of Care (CoC), we coordinate and manage federal, state, county, and city funds for programs providing shelter, housing, and services to people experiencing homelessness.

The Sr. Accountant (AP) is mainly responsible for generating financial reports and analyzing the general ledger and the financial data.

  • Ensure entries are properly recorded and adjust any miscodings in the accounting system
  • Runs and create financial reports for the Associate director of accounting for presentation to Director of Finance, CFO and Commissions.
  • Prepares financial statements (Balance sheet, Statement of Financial position, Revenue and expense report and cashflow) and prepares variance analysis reports.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
  • Work with Associate director of accounting and Principal accountant to ensure timely year end closing and reporting at fiscal yearend.
  • Responsible for yearend closing entries and audit preparation.
  • Work with external auditors in providing documents and schedules needed.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and local regulations.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting and government accounting preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to express technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Extensive and solid accounting technical skills, GAAP fundamentals and principles and audit process.
  • Excellent people skills, specifically customer service skills and a capacity for collaboration and interpersonal relationships
  • Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Advanced or intermediate level of computer software programs specifically, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook) and proficient in any accounting software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse community and organizational groups
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned
  • With abilities to create a report, interpret data and analyze report.
  • Requires two-five (2-5) years experience in accounting as a senior accountant or as a supervisor.
  • Accounting experience in general ledger analysis and financial reporting and analysis strongly preferred and some other function in accounting will be considered.
  • Bachelor of Science from an accredited college or universityin Accountancy degree / business degree with a major in accounting.
  • Any combination of extensive and applicable work experience and educational credentials performing the above duties successfully.
Schedule: The Chief Executive Officer or designee may change the schedule of positions between hybrid and onsite, as necessary to accomplish LAHSA's business needs.
